In NY he'd be getting a call tomorrow or the next day to come turn in his handguns, assuming they don't come and get them. Bad as NJ is, I'm not sure if it's that bad or not.

Ramius -- Excellent the way you were passive.

I followed the link and it asks if you like the police dept. I clicked No. and than started looking around and it collapsed. Tried to log back in with the same link and it says Facebook has closed that link. Gestapo is very on the ball when it comes to deleting that which it does not approve of.
And not allowing any in who have a differing opinion.
Sort of --there is a 'Like' but not a 'DisLike'....

Would that all the spectators, rather than voicing their outrage, had all walked into the gym and out again, circled the police and their vehicle he was in and presented their arms to be cuffed. And not dispersed till he was released.

Just to clarify, it's not an official page, it's a FB created page, based on demand. If you hover over the grayed out "Unofficial Page" link, you'll see this:

quote:
This unofficial Page was created because people on Facebook have shown interest in this place or business. It's not affiliated with or endorsed by anyone associated with Bellmawr Police Department.

That's why there is no normal "Like" option. Has there EVER been a "dislike" option on FB?? Now, they may have "unaffiliated" themselves with that page after this incident, who knows... But yes, that page is still up.

Given the circumstances in this case, it's likely that a lawyer would take the case on contingency.

I think he was targeted because he's from PA and they probably saw him leave his vehicle and noticed the plate. Out of state trouble maker that he is, you know.

I'm in for a donation as well.

RAMIUS, you should've identified yourself as a meat popsicle.

But seriously, since when are you required in this country to identify yourself to anyone just for standing on the sidewalk?

Why’d they handcuff me, but let me keep my bag? Never searched it or me.

I was able to take my cell phone out while handcuffed for the ride. I called my police detective buddy.

When they realized I had my phone, they pulled over and tried to take it. They didn’t separate me from my bag until we were at the station.

What's a Class 2 officer? I am not fluent in NJ police speak (I kept my nose clean during the years that I lived in that state).

Kinda like a rookie.

A Class 2 Police Officer is required to complete a Police Training Commission approved Class 2 Police Academy. The Class 2 Police Academy recruits are trained in physical fitness, criminal law, patrol concepts, firearms, vehicle operations, defensive tactics, handcuffing, OC spray, and arrest search and seizure.

RAMIUS, I noticed that right off. Not surprised that a Special did the actual arrest.

For those who are curious, a Class II officer in NJ is sort of a part time officer. In many cases, they go through a shorter academy class than a full time officer, and even if they go through the entire Basic Police course, their certification is different. They can only work within the confines of their town, only in uniform. They have full police powers, but only while on duty. And they can carry a firearm, but again, only on duty. They sign it out at the start of their tour and sign it back in at its conclusion.
There is also a Class I category, with less training, less police powers and no firearm.
All police in NJ (except for one subset) derive their authority from state statutes. For the insatiably curious, here is some light reading. Definitions Classifications Regulations Powers

The exception in NJ is Auxiliary Police, who are a descendant of the old Civil Defense forces, and who still exist under a strange mix of Governors Proclamations, old state laws, and municipal ordinances.

Specials are widely used along the NJ Atlantic coast, especially during summer months, to bolster the regular police force. There, it's not unusual for the police force to double (or more) in size between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Elsewhere, like Bellmawr, the numbers are smaller, and in many cases, Class II's are on a trial run with the department. If they don't work out, they're easy to fire. If they do, then they can get hired full time, and receive a training waiver for their previous academy plus experience, then only go back to the academy for a few classes to get upgraded to a full (Class A) certification.

The young guy leading RAMIUS to the patrol car is probably trying to get on full time, and to use a 'Sopranos' analogy, is trying to make his bones. If that Lieutenant on scene told a 'made man' (full time officer) to make the arrest and the officer demurred, he might be in for a little grief. The Class II would likely get terminated by close of business that day. He clearly had the most to lose.

All that said, I'm saddened, disappointed, ashamed and aggravated by the actions of my brothers in blue in the southern part of my state. I'm disgusted by the overreach of the socialist slimeball in the State House. And I'm proud of RAMIUS for taking a stand against them. In for the defense fund.

But I gotta ask - why Bellmawr? I thought you were a So. Philly & Wildwood kinda guy. What are you doing in a dump like Bellmawr?

And I don't think you should go back - at least not until you have one of downtownv's F*CK MURPHY masks.

The comments were from really really pissed off citizens, the Go Fund me page is over $25k and will grow in leaps and bounds! We the people, are behind you!
They will continue to arrest the members as ordered by Gov Bucky Beaver.
The police presence was an embarrassment for that little town, I suspect every squad car was there. One Cop (off Duty ) pull up on this Harley to add to the show of force.
I wanted to go just to offer these masks to every protester!
The liberal press is saying ou "Refused" to give your name. You should have just told them, Raimus. We could all vouch that IS your name.
We're with you, Brother, this is the doooshe bag's way of being a tough guy.
