Bob, I can't begin to express my sorry for the loss of your son. You are correct, we are not supposed to out live our kids. My offer for one or more urns is open anytime you and the family are ready.

Take care of yourself as well, the family needs your strength.

1st status update

First I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation for the prayers and sentiments posted here as well as in the private emails and text messages I've received.

I knew Erich had touched a lot of lives with his work in support of other veterans in need but I had no idea how extensive it was until now.

The LA County coroner's autopsy report won't be out with a cause of death for anywhere from later this week until the end of next week. I will share what's appropriate.

I am planning on having him cremated in California and then transported here for services and military honors at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Still trying to navigate. evaluate, and select among the crematories there in the LA area. Talk about challenging! Frown *Input welcome FWIW.*

https://www.facebook.com/Natio...5695/?type=3&theater

Jim and Christine, both members here, have offered a beautiful engraved wood turned urn for his remains and I am overwhelmed with their generosity. https://www.valleyriverartists...large-cremation-urns

I will admit that I am still having trouble containing my grief and emotions when dealing with other people. Haven't been getting much sleep and have been throwing myself into working the seemingly unending issues here:
A moving company getting his stuff out of California, repairing his 4Runner's timing belt and flying out his brother to drive it back here, arranging for Stark (Erich's service dog) to get his remaining lymphoma treatments from a vet oncologist and then get him to Tampa FL for my ex (Erich's mom) to care for him (his condition and prognosis eliminates him from being assigned to another person), dealing with the LA County coroner, screening LA crematoriums (what a minefield with all the hidden fees games they play!), coordinating with a local funeral home for receipt of his ashes and interment at the national military cemetery here with military honors and services, notifying all of the time and date of said services, stopping the VA disability payments and applying for VA death benefits, closing all his accounts....
And this with my 96 year old mom in the hospital with the need to move her to a nursing home in a few days. Recall my stepdad WWII veteran just passed this May 29th and reported here in another thread. Mom is still grieving unsurprisingly.
Also trying to help my younger son with an urgent housing need.

And, for those so inclined, at the bottom of page 9 I answered a query about where donations might be made in Erich's honor.

Again, the family here on sigforum has brought me much comfort in this trying time. I have inadequate words to fully express my appreciation. Thank you all.
