Yep... RCW 9.41.290 State preemption. The state of Washington hereby fully occupies and preempts the entire field of firearms regulation within the boundaries of the state, including the registration, licensing, possession, purchase, sale, acquisition, transfer, discharge, and transportation of firearms, or any other element relating to firearms or parts thereof, including ammunition and reloader components. Cities, towns, and counties or other municipalities may enact only those laws and ordinances relating to firearms that are specifically authorized by state law, as in RCW 9.41.300, and are consistent with this chapter. Such local ordinances shall have the same penalty as provided for by state law. Local laws and ordinances that are inconsistent with, more restrictive than, or exceed the requirements of state law shall not be enacted and are preempted and repealed, regardless of the nature of the code, charter, or home rule status of such city, town, county, or municipality.

San Francisco had a similar measure (Prop-H)(banning handguns within city limits) which barely passed by city voters only to have it overturned in court as challenged by NRA. Courts ruled that such gun bans could only be passed by the state, as they regulate firearms and not the city. SF city govt had to write a check to the NRA for $380,000 to cover their legal costs. High standards, low expectations
| I don’t fully understand the strong resistance to gun storage laws. Some people, not criminals, need encouragement or some sort of motivation to do the right thing. Not everyone is a responsible gun owner, are they? I understand there are bad versions of storage laws, no doubt, but I’m talking in a general sense. Do most of you store your guns in a safe or a secure gun-room? If not, why not?

Does a house count as a container? |
