NHC just upgraded Harvey to a Category 3. My sister, her husband and their 5 boys all live in Conroe. I tried to convince them to head up to Dallas by offering to smoke 3 racks of beef ribs tomorrow. No dice. They are just going to ride it out and let the kids get bored with all the time off from school being cancelled.

Yankees. They aren't at risk from the hurricane part. They are at risk from the rain part. Txjim is right that the rain is the potential problem for Houston. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Here is the official forecast track by the National Hurricane Center. As you can see, they have it sitting back over the gulf Tuesday morning, potentially strengthening, and 24 hours later sitting right on top of metro Houston. This forecast has been pretty consistent for a couple of days. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphi....shtml?cone#contents ______________________________ “I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living.” ― John Wayne

This is a live cam at Port O'Connor, very near the projected landfall spot for the eye of the storm. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/hbt4W9peBLY ______________________________ “I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living.” ― John Wayne

For those not from Houston or not familiar with Hurricanes, the Chronicle has some good and interesting coverage. Even though most shelves are bare, there are some things that were left. One was a picture of an ice chest with the Dallas Cowboys logo. Here is the link: http://www.chron.com/

I'm in Houston and will not be evacuating. I'm in N. Houston (70ish miles to the Galveston seawall), and I'm also sheltering in place. They did recently change the wind forecast from low 40s tomorrow to low 50s. Looking like Harvey may tip into Category 4 just before landfall. ETA Hurricane Center just confirmed Cat 4 storm. ______________________________ “I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living.” ― John Wayne

Stopped in the grocery store on the way home from work, about 2pm. Bread water & milk were the only things I noticed gone or in very short supply. Wasn't nearly as packed as it was yesterday. Got everything I needed, along with 2 extra cases of water, no long lines or waits. Milk was being resupplied as I was leaving. The Enemy's gate is down.
