I just returned a can of that, yesterday, after reading the ConsumerLab protein powders and shakes report showing the sample they tested contained 131% of the sodium Orgain claimed it did. A 2018 review found another Orgain protein powder product contained 181% of the claimed sodium. "America is at that awkward stage. I read this whole thread looking for this! I’m glad I wasn’t the smart ass… Seriously, im on a single ingredient natural kick. The more man fucks with something, the more he fucks it up! Just got back from my physical with a suggestion of keep up the good work! So, it seems to be working for me. Looks like that's where I'm heading. Everything else has garbage in it. I'm not sure I can stuff that much steak down my gullet though.

Guys, steaks and tacos hardly qualify for the OP's request for discussion about "MRE-type" stuff. "America is at that awkward stage. OP is two years ago. I probably should have started a new thread.

Partial dichotomy |
I've stopped using whey protein based on articles I've read and switched to plant based protein. It isn't cheap, but now I use a Juice Plus product....I know lots of non-fans of that here. It's called Complete.

I also quit using whey protein & switched to perfect aminos. Like guns, Love Sigs

That and the fact your goals are different. He was looking for suitable MRE type stuff and thinking protein powder might be the way. (Not IMO, btw.) You're looking for protein supplements to aid lean body mass gains. Different goals. But threads drift

Sorry to revive this thread but seems like a good place to start. After my latest health check, I really need to supplement protein. As I'm biking more rigorously and more frequently, as well as doing some upper body exercises (dumbbells, push-ups), it seems I'm not getting enough protein. It sounds like I need to be getting about 70-100gr per day (especially days when I work out?) but with my reduced appetite as a I age, I'm probably only intaking about 40gr (2 eggs, 1/3 lb of chicken breast/steak/pork chop). So, I think I need to supplement about 40gr of protein per day. Is Optimum Nutrition the go-to brand? Any recommendations from what Costco offers (convenient and bulk buy)? https://www.costco.com/protein.html Still strongly prefer nothing from PRC; no shitty fillers, heavy metals, etc. I'm not allergic to anything at this point (whey, milk, stevia, ...). Looking to at least maintain muscle mass, if not grow it a bit. I lose muscle fast these days. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." I don't mean to thread drift, but I've got about the same situation as you. I get bored with the same old foods all the time, I also use a Protein Powder, but recently I learned that eating beans and cornbread is good. Beans and cornbread, eaten together, provide a good protein (win-win), plus more fiber etc. I only say this to give you the thought that you might expand your everyday foods. I got bored with the same foods frequently and gave this a try. I like it. Sir, best wishes to you in your endeavor. .

Be careful you don't take in too much protein. Too much can cause calcium leaching, as I recall from my college nutrition classes. "If Gun Control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome" - Cam Edwards

Thanks, good suggestion. I was planning to up my intake of tofu and beans in place of rice and potatoes (not elimination). I LOVE cornbread but don't have a good source for it - maybe someday I'll learn to make it myself. When I get the protein powder, plan is to mix it w/ greek yogurt.... Thanks - I'll try to monitor that. Plan is to start daily intake of about 70-80gr (up from the 40gr or so that I'm doing these days). We'll what effect that has. I would think the stuff from Costco would be fine. I usually use Body Fortress whey protein powder available at Amazon and pretty much all stores around here. I also like high protein yogurt and drink a lot of milk. I buy the Ratio stuff locally which has 28G per serving. Oiko has one too with 20G per cup. https://ratiofood.com/products...tein-dairy-snack-tub -- what I usually eat https://ratiofood.com/products...-protein-dairy-snack https://www.oikosyogurt.com/gr...ltered-milk/vanilla/ BTW you need to eat that much protein every day. Remember your muscles grow during recovery which can take days. Good idea to be sure you get enough other essentials such as Vitamins D,C,K, and others and also potassium, zinc, magnesium, etc. I like Magnesium glycate because it is so bioavailable and recommend the NOW brand. https://www.healthline.com/nut...n/magnesium-benefits I started strength training at age 71 April 2023 and have had good results. I try to get between 120-150 grams of protein a day. https://www.amazon.com/Body-Fo...n%2Caps%2C124&sr=8-2 https://www.bing.com/search?q=...&PC=U316&FORM=CHROMNThis message has been edited.
