For years when we lived in New Jersey my volunteer fire department would spend the day after Thanksgiving decorating the firehouse. This would take about 15 members about 4 or 5 hours, then when we were done I would make lunch for everyone.

Then once my wife got home from shopping the two of us would start to decorate our house.

This is what we did for years in New Jersey, and now living in Florida for the last 26 years we still wait till the day after Thanksgiving, does anyone else wait till Friday?

Thanks

Depends on the weather forecast. This year, outdoor went up yesterday while it was 70 degrees. Today's high is 39. Won't get lit until 12/1 though.

I put up my wreath this week. So, just a bit before Thanksgiving. I may do a little more next week.

Outdoor decorations go up in November about whenever the weather is favorable, but they’re not turned on until after Thanksgiving. We usually put the tree up and decorate the house after Thanksgiving. This week, we had two granddaughters in the house and put the tree up on Tuesday, so they could take part. The rest of the house decorating remains to be done.

Same with me and the wife, it starts the weekend after. It was always like this in past decades with everyone, especially growing up as a kid, but it seems in recent years, a segment of the population gets a huge jump on Christmas, months ahead. When I was a kid, TV and radio ads didn't touch the holiday until after Thanksgiving, but in later years they did a couple of weeks ahead, and now it is before Halloween.

I did time in New Jersey too.

Santa Claus arrives in The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Thanksgiving and beyond is fair game.

My wife is watching the parade as we speak.

When I was a kid my uncle was very high up in Macys management. Every year he would ask if we wanted to be in the parade as a balloon/rope handler I always thanked him and declined. As I look back now I wish I had done it.

Eventually we ended up with a little 3 foot tree that just fits in the attic.
