winter: Oatmeal w/ raisins, grade B maple syrup, tiny bit of milk. or bacon or sausage eggs and toast Summer: wheatie's, rice chex, corn chex, We used to call it Ovaltine and toast. But it was really Hot milk w/ Nestle's Quick in it. We would dunk our peanut butter toast in it.This message has been edited. Last edited by: bendable, Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Mine was fried eggs and sausage.....not just any sausage, but the Halle sausage made locally in Northern NH. Mr. Halle's sausage was legendary. Once you ate it, you just had to have it again. Unfortunately, Mr. Halle died and took the recipe with him. There were a few sausage makers who claimed to have his recipe, but they were short-lived as those sausages were not Halle's.

The Irish Fry-Up. Mom made it every Sunday. Fry bacon and sausages, remove bacon from cast iron. Take leftover mashed potatoes from who knows when, form frisbee, coat in flower, fry in greeze for potato "bread". Fry eggs in bacon/sasuage greeze. Cut tomatoes in half, fry in greeze. All the while bake soda bread in other cast iron pan in oven. Finally, heat tin of beans and cut roots off green onions. Plate all items with optional blood pudding and coat in butter/salt. Eat, argue, drink multiple beers with 12 people at a table made for 6. Argue about religion. Enjoy.

No favs I remember, but clearly remember least fav. I beg, pleaded and negotiated for what must have been months for the glorious new cereal that I must have, simply MUST in order for life to go on. Apparently this was successful and mom finally broke down and got me the grand and wonderful box of KaBooms! Why she gave into a barely-older-than-toddler I'll never know. I have no idea how I even knew of these, perhaps from seeing in store or a Sat morning commercial. This is circa 1969. Well they sucked in the most suckiest of sucktastic ways. I mean thoroughly awful. Unfortunately there were clear rules in our house -- you eat the cereal we have before you get any replacements. That had to be the most unpleasant series of breakfasts ever. I think I resorted to eating the shitty shredded wheat in the back of the cabinet just to delay the inevitable. Bleh. ![]() You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Whenever I have Cream of Wheat, it takes me back to eating breakfast with my grandparents. Clearly a sentimental choice, as Cream of Wheat isn't anything remarkable, its not packed with layers of flavors and textures like others. Perhaps it was the act of sitting with my grandparents as they put a pat of butter in, a little sugar and a dash of half-n-half in to your bowl. Eating with them everything seemed to taste better, nothing can take you back to your childhood like eating certain foods that touch other senses in the mind.

Quisp and Maypo were two of my favorites but my parents didn't buy them often because of the cost. Puffed rice or puffed wheat was a pretty regular breakfast so Quisp and Maypo were a treat.
