So him serving is minimal connection?, but "as a navy guy" was how you began your opinion... That sounds awfully double standard. I said it doesn't bother me and that upsets you. As though you feel it SHOULD bother me. Trolling isn't simply disagreeing with you. You JUST cannot formulate an argument as to why they should not name a ship after this man. If you don't like it so be it, you can feel that way but don't present ignorant ass arguments to me for your stance. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

He was forced out of the Navy for being gay. Used to be that earned you a dishonorable discharge. ETA: NBC reports he had a "Less than honorable" discharge. So there's that. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

Otto, please tell us exactly what amazing story, navy related or otherwise, that Harvey Milk tells. He is famous for being a gay man elected to city council in San Francisco and subsequently being murdered by a political opponent who is just as famous for his Twinkie defense. This isn’t exactly a story of anything that deserves to be honored by the naming of a Navy ship. And yes serving a short time in the Navy with no particular high points other than getting kicked out doesn’t really move my needle much. Let’s be blunt. Are you really saying that you believe there aren’t thousands of more qualified and deserving heroes out there that actually make more sense than this? It is this simple. Once you start making it about politics instead of tradition and pride and heroism and historical battles where hundreds or thousands of patriots died for this country but now we are using it as a political tool to push an agenda we are going down the wrong path. You think it’s the right path or at a minimum no big deal. I think that is a losing position. We all lose. Navy ships should return to the naming traditions of old. Remove the politics. There is still a place for heroes. I’ve never met a politician that I believed to be worthy of hero status on his political merits. Who is that “admiral” in the health corps. Are they next? You really support this lunacy?

Not a problem. How about these... USS Johanny Rosario Pichardo USS Nicole L. Gee USS Darin T. Hoover USS Hunter Lopez USS Daegan W. Page USS Humberto A. Sanchez USS David L. Espinoza USS Jared M. Schmitz USS Rylee J. McCollum USS Dylan R. Merola USS Kareem M. Nikoui USS Maxton W. Soviak USS Ryan C. Knauss USS Glen Doherty USS Tyrone Woods That should cover us for a while, huh. The list of appropriate and worthy names to honor is almost endless. Instead, this worthless, weak, moronic, administration brands a military vessel with the name of a person who's primary relevance in anything even approaching history is that he was a homosexual. So yeah, naming vessels matters, and neither it nor us should be dishonored by a perversion of the process to placate a stupid ideology. Oh, and since my dear father spent two tours on two different ships in the Navy and ended his service with an honorable discharge, when will he be getting his name on a ship? I guess since he didn't dress in women's clothes or marry a dude he's out, right? ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. This fucking PC woke shit has gone on too long. Naming a US ship after a person who is not a hero but happens to be gay is just a bunch of bullshit. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock "If there's one thing this last week has taught me, it's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it." A US Navy ship should be named after a person who: 1. Is dead. 2. Did something in or for the Navy that was noteworthy. 3. Received an Honorable Discharge (if served). I don't think this Milk person fits the bill. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

Following this theme I expect to see the USS George A Custer, the USNS Benedict Arnold and the latest naval base to be renamed the NAS Cameltoe Harris

For the record, this ship's name (and others) was set in-place by #44. Navy ship naming have been a mess for about 40-years, every ship class has exceptions to the rule to the point, that...there's no more rules. smh Oilers & replenishment vessels used to be named after our nation's rivers, getting back to that practice and sticking to established naming guidelines would be a good start to avoiding disasters like USNS Milk...USNS Caesar Chavez and others

Milk was key in enabling and empowering the Rev. Jim Jones. Did Milk miss Jones' obvious manipulations or was Milk willfully ignorant? Did agenda outweigh reason? As such, I don't see Harvey Milk as admirable. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

Hmmmm, I though the current administration delighted in reversing everything the last administration did. Personally, I don't think the Trump administration actually opted to waste time on such things as they had bigger fish to fry, but you can bet the current group of circle jerk fanatics are all in on this sort of embarrassing stupidity. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. My cousin was a CPO and when she got out of the Navy I saw who her sailor friends were. Everyone of them are gay. She ended up "marrying" a female sailor they are not together now. She didn't care for my question about is everyone there gay. _______________________________________________________ And no, junior not being able to hold still for 5 seconds is not a disability.
