If we can keep this apolitical, that would be great.

That said, I suppose responses will mostly be regarding things that aren't all that big of a deal to the person posting. Though it would be interesting to hear from folks that have had that moment of "Well shit, guess I was wrong about that after all."

For me it is more like a change of attitude that comes to mind first. Namely, when I quit hunting. After a while it just wasn't anything I wanted to do anymore...to the extent that I cringe when I think on my past. Of course at the time I was just doing things the way I was raised, and they way everyone I hung out with was living.

Anyone else?

Yes, becoming a defense attorney. Something when I was a cop would never have done or thought of.

I quit smoking after smoking from 15-30yo. Working as a cop I was constantly in and out of people’s homes and I couldn’t believe the smell of the cigarette smoke. Made me want to wretch and I couldn’t figure why smokers couldn’t smell how bad it was.

I know I had become nose blind to it. And to me now it’s just gross.

Not yet, but the list of things that meet that standard for me is very, very, very short. I'm flexible on a lot, and aggressively seek out new studies on things that I've taken some sort of position on.

Having my in-laws live with me, or at least visit for several months at a time.

I couldn't imagine any man wanting his wife's parents to stay for more than about two weeks. But coming from China, it's a long trek. And Mrs. Lee's folks are fantastic cooks, love guns as much as any of us, do ALL housework and, other than a little cramping on space and privacy, life is good when they're here. We picked Mrs. Lee's mother up at LAX two nights ago. I'm on the road now for two weeks, but it's going to feel like a catered vacation for a few mos. when I get home. All I have to do is take them out to dinner once in a while and then to shoot my machine gun at the range.

I used to think custom knives were not worth the money. Now, I own several and use them everyday.

The only one I never used was the Mike Miller Damascus with juniper burl scales that was used for an auction here.

Yeah, when I was in about the 2nd grade, I wasn't quite sure that girls served a useful purpose in this life. Fast forward a few years and I decided life was a lot more rewarding with having them around.

Now that I have passed eighty, I figure the truth lies somewhere in the middle of both of my youthful beliefs - kinda depending on "which girl" was involved.

I never thought I would stop hating one of my older brothers for the hell he put my family through when I was was growing up.

A few years ago I realized that somewhere after 40ish years, the hate had turned to indifference. I still don’t have any desire to have a relationship with him, but the hate just isn’t there anymore.l

Yes. I used to think that ADD was just kids being lazy and parents using it as an excuse. I thought that meds for this was just a big scam.

Fast forward years later and my daughter is struggling to concentrate in elementary school. Teacher suggests talking to our pediatrician. Welp, shes diagnosed with ADD and put on meds. In a few days the teacher noted improvement and her grades began to climb. A few weeks later and the teacher said she's now one of the top students in her class.

Yeah I ate crow on that one.

I'm not sure this is actually changing my mind.
I grew up in the Methodist Church. For most of my adult life, evangelical Christians (fundamentalists, we called them) were to be scorned.
Then the 60's came, and the Methodist and other mainline churches adopted very liberal theological and political positions. I couldn't go back to a Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), or any of the mainline churches now. We happily attend a Baptist Church where I sing in the choir, enjoy the sermons, and feel no strangeness at all about being part of it.

The Death Penalty.
While I still feel its appropriate for a number of crimes, my conservative nature just can't justify the expense required to make it happen in most jurisdictions.

I've seen a number of people move to that position...

I continue to believe it could be effective but not in the way it is currently administered. It's currently far too political, and it takes far too long for it to be an effective deterrent to crime.

Also, I think it should be more public, like a hanging... but that won't happen.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
