True, but since that didn't happen, I like the idea of departing the prison, Kabul and the US Embassy, and Bagram airbase, and then dropping JDAM's on all of them, reducing all of them to rubble with zero concern for anything described as collateral damage.

So, the real question is how long before we are back fighting in Afghanistan?

I guess we will find out at 3:45 Eastern time.

I had forgotten about Afghan fighting seasons. That's actually a good point, of course.

Everyone knew about the American timetable for pullout of course, but everyone got equally caught off guard by the speed of the Taliban advance. So we're having pretty much the same accusations here over who is at fault for not evacuating embassy staff, citizens and local hires earlier, both by opposition and between government parties. Fueled of course by national elections being just six weeks away, and exacerbated by the fact that Germany took critical days longer to start military evacuation operations than the US, UK and Canada. Which results in Luftwaffe aircraft circling Kabul right now because the situation on the ground doesn't permit landings.
