I know they say Weller 12 is a close example of Van Winkle. It's not. I new immediately which was Van Winkle. Tasting it neat, it was really good nothing was needed but I added two small ice cubes and it changed neither better nor worse. Caramel changed to butterscotch and the slight burn from the 90 proof all but disappeared. The store had a bottle of Van Winkle 10 and I didn't buy it. There are many good bourbons less than $30 and at the time I couldn't justify it. 46&2, It might be too early to call it but I think I'm a bourbon convert. I still enjoy scotch but I'm enjoying this Bulleit more than any Scotch I've tasted, not that I'm that experienced but I think I prefer the flavor profile of bourbon in general. I stayed away from bourbon because people described it as "sweet" but it is not that kind of sweet, like a mixed drink or cough syrup. Can't wait to try more and Bulleit is considered barely mid tier at best! Good stuff __________________________ They keep saying they just want "sensible gun laws" but they hold up countries where they are banned and confiscated as their ideal. Antis thinks guns are only good for killing people. I think guns are good for self defense. So I'm the one with the "problem"? The Bill of Rights affirms the Rights of the Individual Not the State. One of my faves, and one I rarely choose for some reason. Buffalo Trace. I think I prefer Buffalo Trace over Bulleit after side by side tasting. Bulleit has a faint chemical nose and flavor. Buffalo Trace tingles in the mouth at the start Bulleit tingles towards the end. Buffalo seems to be more enjoyable from start to finish. Bulleit is still an enjoyable bourbon but if given a choice the winner is Buffalo Trace. I sipped both neat and just a dash of chilled filtered water. I was in SCotland a few weeks ago. We stopped in at the Glenkinchie distillery for their tour. Now, I don't care for Glenkinchie single malt, but they did have a multi-distillery tasting at the end. One of the malts was Mortlach 15 YO. I had my local packaged goods store order a bottle for me. As a memento of my trip to Scotland. An $80 memento, mind you. If you like 'em sherried, you'll like the Mortlach. I poured drams from two other malts.
