Frozen pizza....I'm lost Login/Join

I'll be honest, I haven't had a frozen pizza in about 10-years, the questionable pizza's I had, I was either too full of alcohol to notice or, my attention was elsewhere. I cook a lot and I enjoy eating good food, that said, I was the good uncle and said yes to watching the niece and nephew in 2-weeks. That week I don't have the time to whip-up anything from scratch but was told a frozen pizza would suffice.

Like I said, I enjoy eating good food, after going through the freezer section a few hours ago....I'm a bit overwhelmed with which pizza to get. I know, don't overthink it....is Newman's anything beyond salad dressing? Somebody else told my Amy's is good...but, they don't have a meat lover's....DiGiorno's, Red Baron, Stoufers, what's this Screaming Sicilian?

What are the good ones?

Not much of a pizza eater in my old age but my boys much preferred Papa Murphy's Take 'n Bake fresh into your home oven to any of the frozen so widely available.

For strictly frozen, lots of tastes tests and opinions online:

Might be regional but for cheap quick eats we bake a Jack’s frozen pizza.

Dave Portnoy of Barstool did a frozen pizza review during the COVID lockdown last year. A lot of these on the list are from actual restaurants vs the freezer section, but it’s worth a look.

Having said that, my kids like Jacks. We tried the Lottza Motzza based on his review and it wasn’t bad.

I’ve found the crusts have gotten better but the toppings are all still bland frozen pizza type.

Motor City Pizza Co and the similar Digorno deep dish pan pizza are ok. I rarely buy though.

Little Caesars deep dish is about the same price. NOTE their deep dish varies a lot depending on location. Near me it’s good and greasy. At my parents it’s barely more than flour and water.

Do you have a papamurphy's nearby? They make the pizza fresh and then you bake at home. https://www.papamurphys.com/menu

I've also been more than impressed with Costco's premade pizza, they seem better than the ones my wife gets out of the freezer section.

A third option is be the cool uncle and spring for a good delivery pizza, or better yet, order from a local joint.

I’ve been getting these at the local market. Should be local to you.

We do like Papa Murphy's, but the location near us closed.

If you're in the southeastern U.S., Publix Premium is excellent frozen pizza (you'll need to add your own anchovies).

No delivery available where you are? That way you get decent pizza easily.

I’ve been eating Tombstone pizzas for the better part of 40 years. It’s cheap cardboard pizza but there is something about it that has me keeping it stocked in the freezer.

I should give it up but not ready to.

Screaming Sicilian is my go to for frozen. But Papa Murphy's take and bake is really good if you have that option.

Local Figaros has a decent ubake thin crust....or have them bake it....

Grandkids loved it, zero trouble cooking & there was, strange to say, no clean up or left overs....

I prefer Tombstone. Whether I get pepperoni, multiple meats, or supreme I like a lot of pepperoni. What I do is cook it per instructions pull it out and add pepperoni then broil it to perfection. I almost prefer it over picking up a precooked pizza.

DiGiorno Supreme. If you like, add some cheese or veggies.

I agree with those who say it is probably best to either order a pizza for delivery or grab a Papa Murphy's Take'n'bake, if you have either of those options, but...

Like many of us I can appreciate the finer things in life, and enjoy a really good pizza...but I'm a man of simple tastes, and while they aren't top of the line, there is nothing wrong with a Tombstone or Red Baron frozen pizza.

I usually wait until my local store runs a sale on either the Tombstones or Red Baron, $2.49 a pop, or the larger Wild Mike's for $4.99, and then stock up on whatever the limit is. Got 3 Tombstones and 3 Wild Mike's in the ice box right now.

THIS is the key to frozen pizzas. Tombstones, Red Barons, Wild Mike's, whatever...doctor them up. I like a little Roasted Garlic and Red Pepper, or Cajun, or Creole seasoning, toss some extra meat onboard, throw some pepperocini or banana peppers in, maybe some mushrooms or black olives, sprinkle some of your favorite cheeses on top, and melt some butter on it. Boom! You got yourself a fine pizza, not gourmet mind you, but still a fine pizza...and for not a lot of money.

I hear ya. I miss seeing them fly. One of my first instructors also flew the airshow circuit and knew a couple of their pilots...but as much as I would love to see them do it again, I just don't see them sponsoring another team.
