I'd appreciate it if you guys would stop trying to turn their OBVIOUS MISTAKE into some kind of fucking BRILLIANT STRATEGY.

Just stop it.

This is the same kind of shit some of you guys did when Obama did stupid shit- you acted as if his bumbling and ineptitude was a cover for some great master plan that we were too stupid to understand.

Stop it

Why on earth they read out La La Land is beyond me. They could clearly see that they had the wrong envelope. It said "Emma Stone, La La Land" and "Best Actress" underneath.

How simple would it have been to just say, "Guys I think we have the wrong envelope here!" Could have been a funny light-hearted moment. Instead, they wing it and give Best Picture to the wrong movie.

Heckuva job, Beatty!

Its because these morons don't have an original thought, or really any thought, in their brains. All they know how to do is read back the lines that someone else has given them. A thinking person with common sense would have stopped as you suggest, but these robot monkeys just regurgitate what is placed in front of them

And gee, how unexpected that immigrants and minorities won everything after all the bitching last year about being too white...

Remember, there are two parties here, AMPAS and PWC. Even if you accept that AMPAS would be willing to look like idiots to drum up ratings, I really doubt that PWC would go along for the ride, given that their reputation is important in their field. They'd probably be willing to let the entire Oscars engagement drop rather than make an intentional act that looks like they screwed up.

Instead, they screwed up for real. It was one of their guys that pulled the wrong envelope. Apparently they have two full sets. One person from PWC was on each side of the stage. The person who intentionally handed the presenter the envelope for Best Actress was on one side, where that presenter came from. The other one was on the other side, where Beatty and Dunaway came from. He pulled the wrong envelope and gave it to Beatty. Apparently the printing on the evelope was gold lettering on a red background and difficult to read.

Staged publicity stunt.

That's what I think too. They saw what it did for the pageant in terms of garnering publicity.

Which supports my point that all of the entertainment business (movies, music, and tv) has really hit a dearth of unoriginality and subsists mostly on remakes and copycats.

The guy who gave the acceptance speech moments ago and then turns around saying, "This is real. La la land won...." couldn't even act well enough to show the mixed emotions and chagrin that would have going through a winner-then-loser.

I love movies, so it's hard for me to hate some of these people. Like DiNero. In his personal life, a real asshole. But then there are his movies, like The Deer Hunter, Taxi Driver, The Godfather, Raging Bull.

It's probably easier for people to act well who have no genuine core to their personality. Who have a shaky or even empty sense of self. Who are none too bright. That would explain a lot, if true.

It would explain, for example, their jaw-dropping hypocrisy regarding firearms and personal protection. They make movies in which actors are simply the way the real characters, guns, move through the scenes. They live in mansions behind walls with 24/7 armed security. They travel with armed bodyguards, and send their kids to schools that have armed guards-- and send them there with bodyguards. And then, with no apparent embarrassment, they make public service tv spots for Brady, and denounce guns.

Most people, if they were living the way Hollywood lives-- most intelligent people who have a sense of who they are and what they value-- would fucking cringe if they had to denounce guns and the rights of citizens to protect themselves. To not have even a flicker of embarrassment signals a very special kind of cluelessness.

And look at their politics. Meryl Streep stands up like some hero of the French Resistance. And Robert DiNero sends out tweets praising her courage, as if she were a hero. As if they all are defying Hitler! Standing up to the Nazis!

It never crosses their tiny brains that if what they are saying were true, they would all have disappeared by now. Nobody would know what happened, and nobody would want to talk about it. Meryl Streep? We don't know anything about Meryl Streep....

These are stupid, vain, shallow people, but most of the time the cloak of glamor hides them. The limos, the paparazzi, the designer clothes, the hair, jewelry, the red carpet.

But then every once in a while we have a truly golden moment of Truth when we see all their stupid just hanging right out there. "And the winner of Best Movie is...." Big Grin Big Grin

The man responsible for handing Warren Beatty the incorrect envelope at Sunday night's Oscar ceremony has been identified as Brian Cullinan, a 57-year-old father of three who has been a accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers for 32 years.

This was only Cullinan's fourth Oscar ceremony, and he was stationed at the stage right entrance used by Beatty and his Bonnie & Clyde co-star Faye Dunaway when they walked out to present the award for Best Picture at the ceremony.

Instead of handing them that envelope however, Cullinan gave Beatty a duplicate envelope he was holding for Best Actress in a Leading Role, the award that had just been presented to Emma Stone of La La Land.

That is why in her confusion, Dunaway announced La La Land as the winner when Beatty showed her the card.

It is unclear what caused the mistake, but it is known that Cullinan had spent the night snapping photos of celebrities and posting them on social media, including one of Stone moments before Beatty took the stage.

It seems to be his favorite perk of the job, that and the many interviews and television appearances it comes with, photos of which he frequently posts on social media.

Wow, they really nailed down the guy. Are they fitting him for a cross?

Well, to be fair, it was his fault - his job is to secure the envelopes and hand them out as each category is announced.

Granted, Beatty and Dunaway, with the application of a couple of brain cells, should have been able to handle the situation without creating a big clusterfuck, but it all began with them being given the wrong envelope.

Yes, they have to have someone to blame it on, and in this case, it happens to be the guy who actually bears the blame. He had a simple job and he screwed it up because he was running around having fun. In the process, he embarrassed a lot of influential people in Hollywood.

Serious yet ridiculous fallout from this debacle. It certainly never should have happened, and the two accountants responsible needed to be reprimanded, but death threats? What worthless scum advances death threats over something like this. Get a life losers!

PwC Oscar accountants receive death threats

The plot thickens for the bonehead bean-counters behind the Oscars Best Picture debacle, as death threats have forced them to get bodyguards, according to a report.

Brian Cullinan, the PricewaterhouseCoopers partner who handed presenter Warren Beatty the wrong envelope for Best Picture, and his PwC cohort Martha Ruiz have been inundated by threats and online abuse, TMZ reported.

Among the social media threats: “You f—–g idiot, i will f–k you every day” and “I hope you get fired and get cancer,” the site reported.

Sources at the firm told TMZ that photos that emerged online of the beleaguered pair’s homes made it clear that some hired muscle was needed.

The latest development is the latest Oscars fallout for Cullinan and Ruiz, who have been stripped of any future duties at the Academy Awards.

“Film academy president says the two accountants responsible for the best picture mistake will not work the Oscars again,” the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

Pictures have emerged from backstage at the Oscars showing the bizarre sequence leading up to the biggest flub in Academy Awards history — when “La La Land” was accidentally named Best Picture, instead of true winner “Moonlight.”

Cullinan was seen clutching two envelopes — presumably one for Best Picture and the other that he gave presenter Warren Beatty — in an image taken at 8:53:23 p.m. local time in LA.

The accountant, who had been warned not to tweet while working, did just that minutes earlier when he sent a photo of Emma Stone winning for Best Actress in “La La Land.”

He then accidentally handed to Beatty an extra envelope for Best Actress — leading Beatty’s “Bonnie and Clyde” co-star Faye Dunaway to make the announcement that will live on in Tinseltown infamy.
