I have the feeling that Dave would have lit them up.

Dave, I'm glad you and your staff avoiding any confrontation.

However, having been to your store, I know where you sit in relationship to the front door. Those guys would have been easy drops from your position.

Great situational awareness.

A few years ago, my store was burglarized. The thieves compromised my alarm system, cut open my safe and stole about about 70% of my inventory. When it was said and done with insurance kicking in I was out $700k. I am lucky to have been able to recover; I still have anxiety when the phone rings past 10pm.

The thief and his accomplice burged a total of 7 jewelry stores, he admitted to all of them. Street value of probably $2m. When I was allowed to give my witness impact statement he was released the following week. Our system (California) is broke, our system does not protect the law abiding citizen, our system punishes tax payers. It is sickening to watch these smash and grabs, the older shop owners are frozen and helpless.

Dave, have you considered moving to a red state? There might well be personal reasons why you would or would not, and I certainly don't mean to pry.

Maybe when I retire, but I do love the weather and the ocean...surfed this morning before going to work and it's amazing.

They have the ocean in Florida, too! Wink

I’m glad you and your employees are safe. I hope those clowns have a bad single vehicle, double fatality accident somewhere remote.

There was a jewelry store (Crown Jewelers) next door to The UPS Store where I get my mail and small package delivery. The owner retired and that location is now vacant and available. We could use a guy like you, around here in sunny Florida!

I picked up my mail one day, then went into the jewelry store to get a bracelet that had been repaired. I laid my mail down on the counter, the store owner glanced down, and said "Good magazine!" He was looking at my NRA magazine. Smile

David, you sound just like my eldest who constantly resisted leaving Kali becuase of the weather and beaches. He surfed too.
Finally he'd had enough when local and state agencies would bend over backwards to extend help to illegals with Covid but ignored him, as a disabled vet, in need while mandatorily quarantined. Thankfully a vet support group brought him food. He was in the process of relocating when he succumbed to service related injury issues.

No question that you would be successful no matter where you set up your shop. My advice... escape from the Socialist Republik of Kalifornia soonest!

Quick side story. Jack First, who owned and operated a very successful southern Kali gunshop and gunsmith parts business, and who was one of the half dozen or so businessmen who encouraged Reagan to run for Governor, relocated to the Black Hills of South Dakota within about 3 weeks of the time that I also did. He brought his employees with him.

The area has a large contingent of firearms related firms so he fit in well here. Told me he never regretted the move and rather wished he had done so earlier. This in 1994!

He passed a few years back... was a WWII vet. But his business still thrives.

And crocs. But not on the beach.

Well... you'll see crocs on the beach, but the ugly "sandal" kind, not the other kind. They have those in California, too.

Earlier today there was another smash and grab in Orange County.

Princess Bride Diamonds in Huntington Beach is the latest victim. Clothing and MO seems to be the same and because the local paper has a policy of not naming the race of the perps, it's understood they're Black.

It's funny to read the stories in the Orange County Register where they relay the authority's request for assistance but the paper won't provide a description beyond clothing and perhaps the car or direction it took.

Edit with more info -

LA media has better coverage and reports the family owned business knew it could happen and fought off the would be robbers. One employee (daughter of owner?) hit a robber in the head with a chair and the robbers decided to leave empty handed.
