based on the strides the l.e.o. makes ( i count 23-26)
times 2 feet per stride
from the car with the holey windshield

I make it between 46 and 52 feet

I kinda want to see his target scores at that distance , through a windshield.

if in fact any of his ammo hit the intended target

Wow, pretty intense video. Just a few random thoughts...

I also thought that looked like a Hipoint, didn’t realize theymade lasers for them.

I’d like to know if any of Tex’s rounds hit after going through windshield. Not that it really matters much to me, but even if they weren’t high probability shots, there is the concept of distraction fire where having a threat presented from a different source can distract and draw the attentoin of the assailant improving the chances of the officers to avoid fire or make hits of their own. Certainly need to be aware of cross fire and what innocents may be in your backstop area but if having rounds coming from a new direction caused Jumanji to hesitate or change focus it may have made a difference. Great “out of the box” thinking by the officer.

Mom and dad of the dearly departed just playing the game how they learned it. I’m sure they got another offspring or two on standby. Doubt anyone of them or the decedant’s homies will learn from the lessson however.

Finally, Kentucky (eastern not Louisville) was already on the short list for my retirement in 5 years or so. I think it just got awarded bonus points in the “Law and Order” category.

I’d still be interested in what the other cops thought of his tactics. He’s at least 40-50 yards away when he comes to a stop. Seems borderline reckless.

Not necessarily, another poster noted the number of strides he took and guessed it at 40-50 feet. Understand the very wide angle lens of a body cam exaggerates apparent distance.

Please, please, please. Let them retaliate. Torch a CVS.

You see, the antics in Ferguson will never play in Kentucky, and not even in liberal Louisville. Even if the lefty mayor decides that they need "room to destroy", they fail to take into account a couple of items.

1- Even if the mayor directs the police force, the mayor still does not control the Kentucky State Police. And that my friends is to their detriment. Even if LMPD were choked back, the state police would be in there so fast that wannabe gangsta's would be surrendering to CNN news crews. Any calls by the mayor to complain to state police headquarters would receive a hearty "Fuck off" from one of the deputy commissioners. And that is about it.

2- We have our own version of roof top Koreans. They're called heavily armed hillbillys. Yeah, you have to be real careful going Reginald Denny around here. Pulling people out of cars....good way to get shot in the face. Arson? It is specifically listed in the deadly force statue.

Guess what? Juries are made up of.....heavily armed hillbillys. In a full armed riot, you'd be hard pressed to even any interest in taking charges, and you'd never get grand jury indictments.

I would love to see Jumanji's parents to call for action. That would be 12 hours of must see TV.

If there had been a Republican County Executive and a Republican Governor, along with a Republican President; Ferguson wouldn't have happened. All three for us for dimocraps. Governor Nixon talked one way to the troops and the command staff preparing but fucked them over when it went down on orders from Valerie Jarrett. The County Executive at the time didn't do shit. Of course we all know what Obummer and Holder's Just Us Department did.

I just finished the book written by the dormer Chief of the Ferguson PD. Pretty good read. Do you have any thoughts on him?

JJJones- you are making Kentucky more attractive as a retirement spot with each post about it.

Yeah, Tom Jackson was an excellent cop, a great leader, and had a real "been there/done that" resume (SWAT Officer, SWAT Commander, and Drug Unit Commander were a couple of his jobs when he was with St. Louis County PD) that so many paper tiger chiefs don't have. From what I saw and what I heard from other officers who I trust, everything in his book was completely accurate. He really hates our not for long Senator Claire McCackle for the way she threw him and police in general under the bus. The mayor of Ferguson hates former Governor Nixon in the same manner. Nixon wouldn't even take the mayor's phone calls for National Guard help on the night of the Grand Jury announcement. The County Executive, a lame duck dimocrap (Charlie Dooley) did the same thing: wouldn't put out emergency executive orders or request help from the National Guard. Both Nixon and Dooley disappeared like they were in witness protection program.

Steering wheel support, awesome
Room temperature, no blue stripe flag, even better!
I’d say 9mm round has improved in terminal ballistics
Another shitbag down, almost as good as hanging in the public square...

Windshield shooter didn't hit anything but got a check mark on his report card for YouTube tactical video skill set implementation. What he did was grossly reckless, irresponsible and ineffective. If in fact he connected, color me shocked.

At that distance, the perp was a gnat speck on his front sight post - and he wasn't seeing ANYTHING once that first round spiffed the windshield. And rolling still?

To heck with the father. What he viewed IS justice.

Where he may get some traction for "justice" (read: payout) will be the officers moving to get the officer suspected of being hit to a car to "Get him to the hospital to get checked out." - while allowing his son to bleed out waiting for an ambulance.

The first officer to make contact and fire appears to have unleashed an impressive fusillade of fire into that white structure down the street. Once empty, he engaged in pursuit for a bit, then decided inserting another clipazine might be useful should the gunfight continue. Uncomfortable to watch.

The Hi-Point was able to discharge all of it's complement of ammunition. That is a feat in and of itself.

The OHP had an incident a year ago or so where they were firing their rifles through the window at a fleeing murder suspect. Almost a year later, the officers hearing is still messed up. Apparently, they train like that too. Never would have imagined it, but seems smart.

I've always wondered what would happen if I ever had to discharge my weapon at point blank through the window.

Just for the sake of curiosity, to all the folks wringing their hands about the officer being “reckless”, what is the adjustment for firing a .40 caliber Glock from the passengers compartment to 15 yard target? I’m Just interested to see if anyone actually knows what the adjustment/offset actually is.

We seem to have some strong opinions here, so answering that question should be easy.

Heck if I know, but if I'm in the passenger seat I am aiming for his knees.

Figure I might get a nut to noggin hit, if I'm lucky and he's not.

But then, if I am in the driver's seat and Mr. Badman in 15 yards from me and a threat, I'm gonna try to drive my truck up his asshole.

Raises hand....

Not one of the hand wringers but I will answer based on training classes I have attended.

Shooting through front or rear windshield from inside the vehicle, most of the time, your deflection will be up, point of impact will be higher than point of aim.

Shooting from outside vehicle through front or rear windshield, there might be deflection downward, point of impact might be lower than point of aim.

Don't know this officer's skill level but I can tell you it is possible to shoot accurately through a windshield with a handgun. I also agree that body cam lenses distort the perception of depth. If you shoot at an officer be prepared for incoming. The good guys won this one

JSBCODY and hayesgreener get the gold star. The correct answer for that particular pistol is 1.5-2 inches (generally) upward at that distance. I ll post more on it later tonight. Auto glass is a funny thing with handguns but having extensively shot them
Up with .40 caliber Glocks I can tell you that the procedure itself is quite accurate. I’m a state certified STOPS instructor and spend a bunch of time watching officers shoot up cars with Glocks.

On a serious side.

I carry .45 ACP.

While the video jsbcody posted confirms my concern on glass "spraying" back in my face (and eyes), does outgoing .45 ACP penetrate well?

With the better performing 9mm, and higher capacity than my 6+1, (as well as the increased possibility of being "cornered" in my vehicle as the world devolves) I might be looking to change to 9mm.

Does anyone know what dimension the squares in the sidewalk are? From when the officer got out of his cruiser and started moving up to the perp, I counted 16-17 squares. Guessing 4' length would put the shooting distance in the 20-25 yard range.

Jumonji was about 1 sidewalk "square" in length. So maybe 5+ feet per square...

I'm in the "recklessly discharged his pistol towards someone's home" camp. No way he had any clue where those bullets would impact. You can talk all day about trajectories and calculations but physics is still physics and once that projectile makes ANY contact with something during flight all bets are off on where it's heading.
