Agreed. It sucks, but he probably needs to stay in a bunker until the inauguration.

Yes, of course that is something advance work is supposed to include.

How likely was that degree of threat assessment is what happened last July?

My point wasn’t that no Secret Service agents would be capable of assessing the risk of certain types of threats, in fact anyone on a protection team should be, but are they? Would someone with a military special operations background and combat experience possibly—just possibly—have an eye for something that the most well-intentioned USSS agent might not?

Hell yes. Not everyone in SS is an experienced military sniper nor should be, there are many types of protection, like many types of doctors, each with a specialty. Military snipers have already proven themselves to be able to hide, to detect other snipers, pick the best hides and modalities of hiding, etc. The best personal protection bodyguard on earth, with no sniper training and experience, could never match wits with a sniper in finding potential sniper hides. I'm not a security person but isn't it common sense.

That's the point the Blackwater CEO was making. The SS are focused on protecting while military special ops teams are focused on targeting. They would look at venue and can identify the best ways to launch an attack in descending order and can direct the SS on how to eliminate the risks of threats.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

This thread might as well be counting up. It has already been 29 days since Trump started running the country from Mar-a-Lago.

It's been a while since I've been to Ft Benning or talked to the Sniper MiTT Team or the SOTIC guys, but despite the movies counter sniping wasn't a major part of the training program. Certain elements and individuals were used as counter Snipers in the GWOT, but that is limited use case. Crew Served weapons, grenade launchers, Mortars, Arty and Air are the preferred Sniper repellent as Snipers are a limited availability asset in most military formations.

Current/Former SOF would probably bring in a higher level of fitness and a lower level of complacency then the Secret Service. They would probably not be burdened by the Secret Service "intuitional rot" that has come to the public's attention after the first attempt on Trump's life. They may have a higher level of observation or wariness. They'd have the will to win whereas the Secret Service folks might not be as invested.

A couple things to note. They have used SOF as a Red Cell for the Secret Service before but haven't released the results. So, the Secret Service should be at least familiar with what to look for. While SOF has been used for PSD (Personal Security Detail) missions (Notably Delta protecting Swartkoph (SP) during Gulf War 1), PSD is not a primary mission for Special Operations troops, Raiding, Counter Terror, Special Recon, FID, etc. are what they normally do. For example, in the US Army the Military Police CORP runs the Protective Services Training Course at FT Leonard Wood USAMPS. It's only a 3-week course. SOF might run their own course, but I'm not read in on it. I'd say the SOF guys would be more similar to the Secret Service's Counter Assault Team, of which there where only two at the Pennsylvania Rally.

Regardless of who is guarding President Trump, they need to bring their A Game.

I imagine President Trump will be returning from France shortly after the end of the Notre-Dame reopening ceremonies today. It will be good to have him back on American soil, where he should remain for the time being.

Im not sure how I feel about this, On one hand, I wish the time would fly by and get Trump in where he can officially implement policy. On the other hand I am enjoying Trump making fools of lunatic left. Hes had more positive outcomes in a month as "president elect" than Brandon has in 4 years.

Too much winning I guess.

Even though his inauguration is a little over a month away, there’s so much correction already happening. It’s a relief. Even some vile Leftist rectums are coming to heel to a degree. That Fred Flintstone of political commentators, Cenk Uyger, has tamed his rhetoric and focused his ire at the Leftist elites in his party. It’s gratifying to watch the course corrections that never would have happened if Trump were not elected.

For those so inclined, perhaps a prayer of gratitude is in order. This is window of opportunity.

As Michael says in GodfatherII, if history has taught us anything, it's that anybody can be killed.

My one consolation is that I believe Butler, PA was the scene of a miracle.

I don't believe that God would have saved him then only to have him murdered later.

If Trump had been assassinated in his first term, his VP was just another brick in the wall. Everything Trump represented would have come to a complete stop.

Now, however, he is surrounded by many strong men and women. Assassination is no longer an option. It would have to be mass murder.
