Would not that reality be present now, after the election? It's certainly constitutionally uncharted waters, but I would assume that if The Donald were to get whacked prior to 1/20, Vance would then be the President-elect and assume office. Could be wrong though. I don't know how that works. But even around the election, I did check who becomes president if the president elect dies before taking the oath of office, apparently, it would be the vice-president elect.
