Reports say before the Reiners were murdered at their home, they were at a party at Conan OBrien’s home where guests said they heard Rob having an argument with his son. It sounds like his son was living with them.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Saw this commentary on a social media site:

Rob Reiner publicly refused to express sympathy after Rush Limbaugh announced his cancer diagnosis, arguing that Limbaugh had caused lasting harm to the country through his rhetoric.

Reiner said Limbaugh bore moral responsibility for deep political and social division and that his illness did not warrant compassion given his past influence.

After Limbaugh’s death, Reiner again declined to offer condolences, insisting that death did not erase what he viewed as decades of damaging commentary.

His remarks sparked backlash from critics who called them cruel and vindictive in light of Limbaugh’s terminal illness, while supporters said he was being blunt about Limbaugh’s legacy.

Any other rational person would crumble and wave the white flag after the first year.

I agree with everything you said, especially this part. However, I don’t think anyone can imagine, much less him, how much hate he was going to encounter. His name was a brand people wanted to license. All of the left, at least, respected if not liked him even if just for his money.

Fortunately for us, his upbringing made him the honey badger of presidents who don’t give a shit what the leftists think of him. You’re very much correct that any lesser man would have crumbled and waved the white flag long before this.

I think back to the video of some event where President Obama was giving a speech with Trump was simply in the audience. Obama had a protracted section where the target of his jokes were Trump and Trump wasn’t a politician then. Many point to that moment as the trigger that made Trump decide to run for president. So thank you President Obama for giving us the best Presidency ever with Donald J. Trump.

Reading different accounts, it was a full-blown shouting argument that disrupted the party, with the Reiners quickly leaving after it stopped. It must be a mindfuck for O'Brian right now, his party was the night before the killings.

From different accounts I read from unnamed friends, the son was "spoiled rotten" growing up, that some of them instantly thought of him when they heard early on about the murders. The daughter apparently was the one who not only found the bodies, but told police to look for her brother.

Interestingly this political bitterness by leftists in their late 70's is something I'm seeing in other people. An uncle of mine who is now 80-ish - and a brilliant Physics PhD - was a lifelong democrat, but he grew up on JFK and RFK in the 60's like my parents and other aunts/uncles. At family gatherings he randomly interjects negative comments about "the Republicans" without regard to the audience. He still thinks the New York Times is the gospel of all truth.

His twin brother became very conservative due to his life experience and I always like hanging out with him best. The last time I saw him before his death, we watched "The Five" on Fox, in liberal CA north of San Francisco!

A friend of similar age - an American living in China (!) constantly whines about Trump on Facebook, and all his retired school teacher friends agree with every complaint without checking any of it for facts. The latest being the "Trump says nursing/teaching jobs aren't PROFESSIONALS anymore!" which was all about federal loan limits on graduate programs and a GOOD THING to keep tuition down.

I think some of this is due to mental decline and the loss of one's "filter". I think it's also flashbacks to Nixon who in their minds was the most evil President that ever existed, before Trump.

That was the 2011 White House Correspondents' Dinner. Trump was quietly seething at the jabs Obama made at him. No doubt this strengthen his resolve to run.

Anger is a powerful motivator, and some use it to one's advantage to do something constructive with it. History has many examples. If Enzo Ferrari hadn't insulted some tractor maker, there might not be a car marque named Lamborghini today.

I was pretty confident this would be the position Victor would take. You don’t listen to the guy every day for two years and suddenly think that he’s going to give a fist pump to this particularly curious response by Trump.
I’m sure if you listen, you will totally agree with Professor Hanson.

I did say "leftists in their late 70's". I would presume that, in the deep south, your elderly are not "leftists" and tend to be conservative, but I might be wrong...

Got a timestamp in that video you can point us towards to on this specific subject? That video is over an hour long, and though I do listen to VDH daily on The Daily Signal, I only have time to fit in the 7-10 min segments, NOT the entire podcast interview. Thanks Wink

What is so "curious" about Trump's response?

If there is any doubt to what the real Rob Reiner was in the last 10 years, the above clip illustrates it perfectly.

My wife spent a little time to listen to mainstream media a couple of days ago and was blown away by their viewpoint of Reiner and this tragedy-

Their beloved son is in custody, but we can't assume he's even a suspect, it isn't a sure theory.

There is nothing particularly unusual for children to murder their parents. Nothing to see here, move along.

We don't know how they died. Sure, there may be some circumstantial stab wounds, but that doesn't prove they were cut up like Nicole Simpson.

Rob Reiner was beloved by everyone around the world. Everyone. He was a saint in Hollywood, the nicest guy imaginable.

Before seeing the above clip I didn’t realize how completely around the bend Mr. Reiner was. At least he won’t be spewing any more of this garbage.

Human nature. Regardless a man's life, when he passes, he becomes a saint.

For example:

There were two evil brothers. They were rich and used their money to keep their ways from the public eye. They even attended the same church and looked to be perfect Christians.

Their preacher was new but could see right through them. One of the brothers died. The remaining brother sought out the new preacher before the funeral and handed him a check for the amount needed to finish paying for the new building program the church had undertaken.

"I have only one condition," he said. "At his funeral, you must say my brother was a saint." The preacher gave his word, and took the money.

The next day, at the funeral, the preacher said, "This was an evil man. He lied and cheated and did every bad thing imaginable. But compared to his brother, he was a saint."

Reiner has been portrayed as a noble saint all along, some sort of final say on political truth. And yeah, in death he's even more saintly, the face of thick and sticky decentness, look at his movies, he wouldn't shit you.

Michael "Meathead" Stivic was conservative in comparison to Rob Reiner's even further leftist views. I knew even as a kid listening to his liberal arguments that they were ridiculous. Ironically, Carroll O'Connor was the opposite of his Archie Bunker character, as he was very liberal.
