There is a phrase I’ve heard, probably from Glenn Reynolds on Instapundit: “Irish Democracy”. I think that’s what we’re seeing here. Where there is no possibility of redress of grievances, vigilantism is not an uncommon response. A free press is supposed to bring injustice to light; our modern press covers it up— smothers it with a pillow, in Iowahawk’s famous phrasing.

Joyous be the day when the MSM are wrenched from their ivory towers and replaced with journalists with integrity in the pursuit of truth.

Ok I talked to my Israeli friend in Dublin and he explained the crux of that story.
It appears that witnesses let out who the perp was and the authorities have not and will not.
And the "journalists" are playing up the "right wing extremist" card. Even though it's known where the attacker is from.
The media is STILL trying to downplay the severity of the attack.
Ben said we'd REALLY like these Irish.

Thanks for the info, Tacfoley. I understand Northern Ireland has civilian ownership of handguns as well. Are civilians in the north allowed to carry? Just wondering, the British/Irish justice system fascinates me. It's SO different from the US.

Thank you RogueJSK and tacfoley for the information. I could never understand why they would not arm the police in some country's.

Glad to help, and to unmuddy the often opaque waters somewhat.

Just as those of us living on Mainland UK used to enjoy shooting handguns of all kinds, with many kinds of comps, just like you have, those lucky folks over in NI can still do so to their hearts' content. they even have a dedicated pistol range where shooters can train for all manner of pistol matches like you have, including police pistol and IPSC type stuff, just like the old days here.

In general, there is no real carry as YOU might understand it, at least for the ordinary Joe or Joette.

Given the unfortunate recent history of the Province during 'The Troubles', there are around 3500 Government-issued handguns of one kind or another in the hands of people who are viewed as target material as far as the ongoing terrorist organisations - the so-called Real IRA et al. But no, the ordinary shooter, whose life is not in imminent danger, still cannot carry a firearm to self-protection. Needless to say, given the nature of terrorism in NI, no member of the nationalist community, ie, supporters of the various anti-British terrorist groups still extant, get a handgun issued to them for protection. THEY don't need them, since the activities against the government officials, police, members of the judiciary, reservists in the Armed Forces etc, are predominantly carried out by members of the nationalist element of the population.

Although genetics might suggest otherwise, he is a close match for another similar dickhead, our very own Mr Klutz himself, The Right Honourable Justin Clouseau. [Hope I spelled that right Wink

The new "hate speech" legislation that they are now attempting to ram through is truly draconian.
Basically there is no definition of what hate speech is and you are allowed to voice "controversial" opinions unless someone takes offence. Basically you must support the latest thing and shut up if you have any questions or concerns.

Tucker Carlson and Steve Bannon Discuss What Happens Within a Democracy When Voting No Longer Works

Tucker Carlson and Steve Bannon have an interesting conversation about what happens within “Democratic” nations when the process of voting no longer generates the changes that are demanded by the citizens.

When elected officials put themselves in a position to stand above the citizens of the country, things start to get very unsustainable. The recent events in Ireland show what happens when the citizens finally say enough is enough.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Elon Musk's Twitter is a bulwark against a near-complete blackout of truth in large-scale social media. In no way is this an exaggeration.
