Multiple people stabbed, including a five year old girl. Supposedly, the perpetrator is an Algerian "immigrant".
The Irish police spokesman is blaming the reaction on "far-right hooligans". It seems some things are universal, including the dis-ingenuousness of the authorities. It may very well be far-right elements at the core of the rioting, but as these attacks increase, the Irish authorities can expect some of the most unlikely people to join the fray.
Europe seems to be getting fed up, and that's very, very good.
"far-right ideology" is Dominant "News" Media code for "sane people fed up with their civilization being destroyed by ignorant, violent barbarians looking for a free ride."

Dumb question, based on another post this week about problems in Europe where a guy was chasing several officers around threading them as they ran away, why do the police not carry firearms?
I have seen that only special SWAT type units carry firearms why not everyone.

Don't look to the Irish media to get an accurate picture as to what is happening in Ireland. They are all squarely in the governments pocket and there seems to be no attempt to tell the other side of the story. People protesting LGBT explicit books in the public library's children's section instantly labeled as right wing terrorists. People bussed in to counter protest, heroes of the people. There was no mention of the attackers nationality and I'm sure they will be trotting out the mental illness excuse soon.

While it's true that in a few countries, like Great Britain, Ireland, Iceland, and Norway*, their "normal" cops are not armed, that's actually a small minority in Europe as whole.
Overall, most European countries arm their police officers.
As to why those few countries choose not to arm their police officers, there's a whole slew of factors: partly political, partly traditional/cultural, partly for PR/public image reasons, and partly because there's typically a lower rate of weapons-related violence so it's not seen to be as necessary by some of the folks who call the shots.
*Note: Norwegian police take a middle ground, in that they do not routinely carry their firearms, but they do have firearms locked in their patrol cars that they can access when needed. (Police officers down in New Zealand are the same.)
