When I got out of the military at a very young age I was drinking my coffee with cream and sugar. My dad harassed me so badly (good natured ) that I changed to black and never looked back. Today is french roast all the way, I just don't want to change what works.

Well said. Black only and strong. I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

My coffee consists of heavy cream, high fat cocoa powder, pat of butter, teaspoon of honey, gelatin with a shot of whipped cream on top . I treat it as a meal and I’m good for 5 hours before I eat a meal. Been doing it for years and it’s the highlight of my day.

I tried switching to black coffee some years ago but found that it gave me heartburn. I prefer two spoons of Coffee Mate regular powdered creamer at home, when out I like some half & half. Never any sugar ever, to me it spoils the flavor.

Back when I was in the Army, we’d make “hobo” or “cowboy” coffee in the field as Army cooks. Boil a large pot of water then open up a #10 can of ground coffee and dump in and stir thoroughly then let it sit. My mess sergeant used to come around and say “I want that coffee just like me: black, strong and rich!”

When I started drinking coffee in high school, my mom said drink it black or buy your own. So, 45 years later I still drink it black. Except when I go to the big city where I but french vanilla "cappuccino" from QT. I love that stuff!

I'm more on the "other" side. I had an odd relationship with it my whole life, kind of liked the smell of it brewing, but the smell of old coffee in a cup makes me retch. That's probably a sour milk thing. But I'm life long odd with drinks. No alcohol, tea or coffee. "No grownup drinks for me" was always my line. When I went low carb, no sugar, I started searching for something, anything else to drink. So I had hot tea for the first time in my life at 51 years old. No sugar, no milk. Tried various teas of all types for about a year. Kind of petered out. I drank hot chocolate ONCE as a child, two sips, didn't like it. Didn't try it again for another 43 years. Then I started to drink it on occasion. One day I tried a Swiss Miss "Cafe Blends Mocha" and really liked it. But expensive and crazy amounts of sugar. So I started experimenting with hot chocolate mix and instant coffee. Or getting hot chocolate at 7-11 with just a little coffee. Over time increasing mixture till it was mostly coffee. That's when I realized there were flavored creamers that would give the same results with less fuss. So I started drinking coffee at 52 years old and have determined I guess I don't really like it? lol I can drink it black if I really needed to, but don't. Milk and cream I don't get at all. But with certain flavored additives I'm okay with it. Medium roast okay, dark roast I can deal with. Light roast tastes like drinking out of an ash tray. Horrific.

Strong, black coffee for me. This thread reminds me of a line my father used. He drank coffee with milk and 3 spoons of sugar: "if you don't have to drink it, don't worry about it." To each their own. I will try pretty much anything at least once. Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

My dad all his life has drank his coffee this way: Three heaping spoonfuls of sugar Three heaping spoonfuls of powdered creamer I say “Dad, why do you drink your coffee this way? It’s like a coffee milkshake!“ His reply “gotta kill the taste somehow!”

HEB Houston blen at home, from the Keurig. Black. Green Mountain Colombian at work. Also black. Used to do creamer & sugar, but got to where the single serve creamers unsettled my stomach, switched to half/half & sugar, then just black. The Enemy's gate is down.

Strong and black. Either Americano-style made in an Aeropress or a couple espressos. Freshly-roasted beans, ground just before brewing. Used to use cream and sugar. Was harassed constantly by one of my best friends who had, in turn, been harassed by one of his uncles for polluting his coffee. Finally I started eliminating the pollutants. First the cream. Then, over time, less and less sugar. I still occasionally like "candy coffee," incl. those caramel with whipped cream concoctions from Starbucks or McD's. But that's more in the way I occasionally eat any other sweet. "America is at that awkward stage. I drink mine with cream. No sugar. My wife likes either the flavored creamers or a pound of sugar. I don’t have nearly as much of a sweet tooth as she does.

I prefer good coffee black to avoid all the unnecessary carbs. As far as food, I always down to try something new. I’m a grub whore of epic proportions. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear.
