The lame brained, disgusting new Nike commercial names her the "greatest athlete who ever lived." It is so insanely exaggerated, it has no meaning at all. How about those little girl gymnasts? What could Serena do on the high bar? Best athlete who ever lived?? What do they know about 19th Century athletes? How about athletes from ancient Greece and Rome? Basically, what they are really saying is: "Serena, please allow us to kiss your ass, please. A really big, wet smooch, please, Your Highness." She hits a ball around. For a living. Go get a real job, Serena. Something for grown ups. ______________________________________________________ "You get much farther with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone."

This sort of reasoning irritates the hell out of me. So she has a marketing/publicity group that positions her to show up ever so often at some event to try and help separate people from their wallets for some charity she likely knows nothing about and cares about even less. Celebs do this crap all the time not because they have any great care for people in general, but because it buys them credibility with 'some' people. My bet. If you checked her personal tax return you'll find a big 'zero' (or little to nothing) in the charitable contributions section. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. She's not even close to the best black athlete who ever lived. Jackie Robinson and Jesse Owens leap to mind. Just more BS by NIKE for publicity. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. Cartoonist slammed for 'racist' Serena Williams cartoon hits back at 'rolling thunder' of public backlash Australian cartoonist Mark Knight has defended his depiction of Serena Williams after some compared it with historical racist imagery of African American people. Mr Knight's cartoon was published in the Herald Sun yesterday, showing her throwing a tantrum, including a spat out dummy on the ground next to a destroyed racket. This was in relation to Williams unleashing a furious outburst towards match officials on Sunday during her loss to Naomi Osaka, delaying play for several minutes, culminating in her calling chair umpire Carlos Ramos "a thief". Some online said they considered Mr Knight's depiction of Williams to be racist, drawing parallels between it and antique depictions of black people in the 'Jim Crow' era. Author J.K. Rowling was among those critical of the piece, saying Mr Knight had reduced Ms Williams to a "racist and sexist trope". Mr Knight today responded to the widespread criticism, saying he had simply drawn Ms Williams as he saw her. "I drew her as an African-American woman ... She's powerfully built, she wears these outrageous costumes when she plays tennis - she's interesting to draw," Mr Knight said. "I drew her as she is, as an African-American woman. "I saw the world number one tennis player have a huge hissy fit and spit the dummy. "That's what the cartoon was about, her poor behaviour on the court." Mr Knight said he had "absolutely no knowledge" of 'Jim Crow' era artwork, and said social media had fuelled the outrage. "I find on social media that stuff gets shared around, and it's like a sort of rolling thunder ... it's like a hurricane - it develops intensity way beyond its initial meaning," he said. "I think racial tensions in America are, of course, more heightened than here in Australia - and Americans may look at it in a different light. "No racial historical significance should be read into it." ---------------------------- "Voldemorte himself created his worst enemy, just as tyrants everywhere do! Have you any idea how much tyrants fear the people they oppress? All of them realize that, one day, amongst their many victims, there is sure to be one who rises against them and strikes back!" The most embarrassing part of that meltdown were the fans that booed this remarkable young lady who beat Williams - not once but twice! What a black eye for Americans in this sport. The ghetto came to wimbledon that day. Luctor et Emergo

I will lose my Man Card for this. Best I can hope for is a "suspended sentence." But: Want to discuss "athleticism" and physical conditioning, training your body to do something requiring incredible strength and precision? Talk to a professional ballet dancer. Ask them about their "training routine," how long an average day is, what that day consists of, how many calories they burn, what injuries can result if they're so much as an inch "off." Then ask them how much they make at the TOP OF THEIR GAME (take the Man Card now: That'd be "Principal Ballerina") and how long their career is likely to last. Then go call the average ball player an overpaid, pampered, all-show-no-go sissy. With a ballet dancer as comparison, you'd be correct.

I don't know anything about Serena's connections to charities, big name athletes use such things out of more than pure altruism. They all associate with charities. I do know, for her decades at the top of the sport, she has very few commercial endorsements. One here and there but overall, next to nothing compared to her tennis accomplishments. I think that may best of all say who Serena Williams is. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

FWIW, and I really couldn't give two shits about tennis, in general - I can respect their ability as tennis players but overall I value sportsmanship, no matter the sport. She's a sore loser, something we teach our 5 year-olds better about. It's ugly, it's babyish, and you look like a damn retard acting out at your age. TBS, and the only real reason I posted on this because I didn't see it anywhere else in the thread - is that Martina Navratilova (sp?) came out *against* Serena and her behavior. Called her out, said it may be true that the women's game is called more harshly for the types of stuff they call in the women's game - but that it wasn't personal to Serena and there are better ways to deal with it (paraphrasing). Martina is respected and seen as a wise old owl in the women's tennis game, rightly so - good on her for going against the grain and calling out Serena on her bullshit. Martina don't give a shit! -------------------------------------------------------------- zman P229 SAS Sig 1911 STX

The umpires are correct. Boycott her. I feel bad for the actual winner, Naomi Osaka. The press should be all about her, and how she won at the U.S. Open. But now, it's all about a 3 year old toddlers temper tantrum. Fellow umpires don’t want to be the next Carlos Ramos. There is an uneasy feeling amid tennis umpires after the WTA and USTA took Serena Williams’ side following her on-court feud with Ramos during Saturday’s US Open final. The Times of London reported that some umpires are considering boycotting Williams’ matches. Ramos, 47, was “thrown to the wolves for simply doing his job and was not willing to be abused for it,” one anonymous umpire told the English paper. Ramos called three violations on Williams: once for coaching, once for racket abuse and once for verbal abuse after she called him a “thief” and a “liar” during the second set of her 6-2, 6-4 loss to Naomi Osaka. Williams was fined a total of $17,000 for the violations. USTA president Katrina Adams celebrated Williams’ class in the post-match presentation, and the WTA seemingly backed her claim that the penalties were sexist in a statement. The ITF sided with Ramos — two days later — calling him “one of the most experienced and respected umpires in tennis.” Serena has mother of all meltdowns in US Open final loss Play Video “The umpiring fraternity is thoroughly disturbed at being abandoned by the WTA,” Richard Ings, a retired top-level umpire, told ESPN.com. “They are all fearful that they could be the next Ramos. They feel that no one has their back when they have to make unpopular calls.” The Flushing Meadows crowd booed during Ramos’ exchanges with Williams and then again during the post-match presentation, spoiling the moment for the champion Osaka. Williams’ coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, admitted to coaching Williams during the match. The decision to take a full game away from the 23-time grand slam champion after her “thief” comment is rare.
