They offered me the equipment upgrade as well, but I have too much stuff recorded on DVR that I don't want to give up just yet.

Good deal, thanks for posting. Seems they almost always are running some kind of "promotion" if you call the right number (the regular customer service reps can't offer much) and say the right things.

Back in July my bill had gone up another $5 or so to $140/month. Saw a longstanding thread on the slickdeals forum after some googling that had the direct number to the retention department as well suggestions of what to say and the best deals people were getting.

Called and told them the price was simply too high for what I was getting and that I was considering cancelling. They offered a $60/month discount for a year right off the bat (no contract), but I had heard about a promo that included a Visa gift card and asked the rep if he had anything better. He said there was a "loyal customer promotion" that included a $200 Visa gift card with a $55/month discount, 3 months of free HBO/Showtime/Cinemax and NFL Sunday Ticket (which I didn't care about and had them take off the bill after the first month to make sure it didn't auto-renew next year). Required a 1 year contract, but at that price it's cheaper than my other option (Comcast) and cord-cutting isn't realistic here yet with our lousy DSL. Plus Twin Peaks was running on Showtime, and I was tired of looking for it online.

Used my gift card to buy some of that Federal ammo that's got a rebate, so I'm stacking my savings Big Grin.

Actually this happened to two of my friends, there is no "holiday discount" program per the rep, the reps stated it was an internet rumor
and the call centers are getting slammed with people calling for the "holiday discount"

However they both got discounts $40 a month so presumably there is a promotion or its at the discretion of the rep.

I called and didn't get the "its a rumor" story but the gal did give me $50 off and showtime so most likely its' the rep you get on the phone

Thanks to the OP for his post. This promo saves me $50 a month. The rep says the Loyalty Program will be an ongoing thing, not just a "Holiday" promo. Other promos will be made available on a continuing basis. She was very helpful and suggested changes to my packaging based on viewing habits that will save about $100 before the promo savings. Also sending out 3 new remotes.

I have been procrastinating the call to DTV to adjust my service, but this post pushed me to act and I'm glad I check in here daily. SF is always full of great info from good people.

Thanks again.

My internet, cell service and DirecTV is through them.

Drops my bill to $46 per month for next year

Thanks for the notice!

Me too, $60 off for 12 months. I am leary of these kinds of deals. As too good to be true comes to mind. We'll see.

Thanks for posting Txjim.

Spoke with a very polite gentleman. 10 minutes to save $50 for 12 months. That’s fantastic.

I’ll admit I’m waiting for the gotcha on this deal, but so far so good.

Thanks for posting.

Glad I checked this thread out! After first telling me they didn't have a holiday promotion the rep. looked at my account and gave me $27/month off of my Premium channels for 6 months. Then when I was ready to hang up she offered me $60 off a month for a year as a loyalty bonus. No strings attached!

The rep I spoke to said that there is no "holiday" promotion, but there is customer loyalty. Semantics, I'm sure.

For those of you getting the free channels and not planning to keep them long term, just make sure to call them and tell them to cancel the channels once the free subscription runs out otherwise you'll probably forget and next thing you know your bill went up because they charged you for them. Good on them for offering a break to loyal customers. We recently switched from Comcast to AT&T Uverse, gigabit Internet, and phone and we are really happy with pricing and service so far.
