Netflix, Amazon Prime and streaming boxes must be killing them.

With very good reason. They are by far the most IRRITATING company to deal with. I manage yachts and all of the yachts have to use direct TV (satellite). If you don't use the TV's every 3-4 weeks, they shut the boxes off and you have to call and have them reset which usually results in an hour of wasted time and aggravation. If the yachts sell, they want all of the boxes sent back and the new owner to receive new boxes, problem is on half of the yachts they're all custom mounted behind walls or have a cutout in the wall for THAT box. Then they want to send an installer to hook up the boxes, they get to the yacht and then tell you they aren't allowed to install on a yacht and they're just a major nightmare to deal with on the phone. Their customer service totally sucks.

Thank you for the tip, TXJIM!

I just called and they reduced my bill $50/month for 12 months and another $10 month for 6 months and tossed in 4 free months of Showtime. Smile

We already have a discounted rate but they decreased our rates so net billing January thru April will be just under $27 per month. I'll take it.

TXJIM thank you for the heads up.

We called and got $25 a month off. No more due to other discounts already in place on our account.
But hey, $25 a month is good!
Thanks to the OP for the notice! Smile

Woo hoo! Just called 'em. Sixty off per month for a year, and 6 months of discounts on premium movie channels. I've been a DTV customer for 14 years, so that may be why I got the additional discounts.

Thanks, Jim!

I called and was told the discounts were an internet rumor and not true. My wife laughed at me and asked if I believe everything I read on the internet.

Apparently, you reached an imbecile or a slacker at DTV. Call back and ask again. This is not an "internet rumor". What it is, is money in the bank.

DTV must see the handwriting on the wall.

Dropped mine to $22 / mo for basic. Was about to go SlingTV but for that cost it delayed the cord cutting 9-12 months.

They may not just come out and offer it - they word I got was there was no holiday promotion, it was a loyalty promotion and they'll look over your account.

I had to do the "we are about to cancel but when I heard of this I figured it worth asking", and she immediately threw out $45 off for 12 months without batting an eye.

Jim your the man. I had a $30 discount that is expiring in 2 months. Got $60 off for 12 months. She reviewed my account for awhile and I think I got the full $60 since I have been Customer for 13 years. This makes me wonder if we are about to see some new huge discounts from some of the steaming services, or a streaming DVR service or a new Apple service or something. I think this number must be the customer retention department and not just a promotion department. Very pleasant service person.

Glad this has worked out well for several of you. Looking at this thread and the thread on the other forum, it does seem that a very few folks have gotten a rep that was unaware of the deal. I think simply calling back and getting another rep on the phone has worked out for most who were persistent.

Yes, by all means, call back. This is money in the bank. Ask for the "loyalty promotion".

DTV sees the handwriting on the wall and I find this very satisfying, even beyond the monetary savings.

Checking back into the other thread, it seems there may be an additional opportunity if you also have AT&T cellular service in your mobile phone. Some folks there are reporting that they also got $15.00 per month reduction off their AT&T cell phone bill and free HBO for life, yes forever, for having both DirecTV and AT&T. So if you have both it may be worth mentioning when you call. If you already called it may be worth calling back if you have AT&T cellular as well.

I received an email yesterday from AT&T letting me know that DirecTV rates are increasing in Jan 2018. The increase varies from $2/mo to $8/mo depending on your package. Perhaps they're trying to head off some unhappy customers.

Link to price increase.

Thanks for the heads-up Jim, but for Direct (and Frontier) it's too late. Instead of offering me something to stay, after pushing me past the brink, they should have kept their prices low enough to keep me.

We just got TDS Fiber attached to the house, and will soon have a package with more features (and SPEED), for half of what we pay DirecTV and Frontier together.
