You learn from your parent's behavior. My Dad was a no nonsense guy. My teenage buddies were afraid of him.
He was driving the family station wagon when some guy started rammming his car into us. My Dad stopped our car and got out. We all expected him to rip off his shirt and kick the guy's ass. Instead he ran into the nearest bar and called the cops. My mom explained that calling the cops was the prudent thing to do.

I wonder if she is related to Pocahontas?
