You learn from your parent's behavior. My Dad was a no nonsense guy. My teenage buddies were afraid of him. He was driving the family station wagon when some guy started rammming his car into us. My Dad stopped our car and got out. We all expected him to rip off his shirt and kick the guy's ass. Instead he ran into the nearest bar and called the cops. My mom explained that calling the cops was the prudent thing to do.

20 years ago he could have told her to back off or get her nose rearranged, and if not he could have done it and nobody would have cared, or, nothing would have happened unless a TV camera happened to catch it, there was no iPhone to capture it, no social media to spread it on and likely the media wouldn't have picked it up.
Today, you can't move without being recorded, he didn't escalate anything, and by giving her the ball she ended up looking like the Karen she is, and she probably wears that like a badge of Honor.
