Rumor is that North Carolina asphalt is tough on tires - something about the type of rock they use in the asphalt.

I love the Golf Sportwagon, its just a bit small for me. However, if Volkswagen would import the Sportwagon R to the US (300hp+ and AWD), I think one of those would be hard to say no to.

I considered a VW Jetta Sport wagon and a GTI before I bought my second Mini,

dealer had very little as far as inventory available , so I stuck with a Cooper,

when that was totaled (rearended) I could not find a decently priced used one in this area,

and yes, that R would be Sweet

My dad had an 2001?? BMW 540it which was a half ass M car. Had a v8 and sport rims, tiptronic gear shift and M steering wheel.

That car was fun as hell and would smoke the 5.0 mustang of the day. I would love to have a new version of it.

If Subaru ends up offering the new Outback in XT trim with a turbocharged 2.4-liter, like the rumors are claiming, that will likely be my next car.

I'd get it if I could, I have a fondness for wagons.

I remember riding in the family candy apple red Ford LTD wagon with wood-grain sides, 1970 or 71. Also had a fold down rear seat in the way back. Spent a lot of time in that car, vacations, fishing, offroad and down powerlines for berries and mushrooms. Must have carried 4 or more adults and 6 or more kids hundreds of times and miles. Looking back, I think it rusted almost as fast as it burned gas. Dad donated it to the school band auction in 1979.

It had a front seatbelt bolt that must have gone through to the exhaust because it would burn the skin off your bare feet on a long trip. Years later I worked for Rousch building prototypes, never needed to question why the seatbelt bolts and floorpans were instrumented with thermocouples for testing.

Broke the transmission and holed the fuel tank in a burgundy with wood-grain 74 Malibu Classicc wagon when I was 16. Parted out that car, and upgraded a friends Malibu with classic grill (real metal and chrome). V-8, headers, Keystone Classic N50s, what a hoot.

Rode in many others, including a Buick or Olds Vista Cruiser, 454. Beautiful wagon, friends dad passed everything like it was standing still, and blew away teens with hotrods at stoplights.

Tried to buy a 1980 Chevy wagon, it had aluminum hood and fenders, and a 3.8l engine. I wanted to put a SC 3.8L in it and make it a sleeper. Think it also had a factory radio with CB and 8-track. Most vanilla looking car I've ever seen.

My current wagon fantasy is a Malibu Maxx body with an Aztek or Rendevouz AWD drivetrain, and a Series II 3.8l SC engine. My chevy version of a GLH, which is also kind of a wagon butt ugly.

Looks like a fun car!
We had a Volvo XC for years and loved it.
When it finally died, I was looking to replace it with another one but I ran into an old Land Cruiser along way. Otherwise we'd still have one in the garage.

Yours is the wagon version of my 2014 E350C4. I have the stock V6 350 engine, but the AMG handling and sport package.

I've never quite understood how AMG can make a C63 and the E63, but not the coupe version of the E. It's a car styling that just begs for that 600+ HP engine! They make the E550C, so it's not like they can't fit a high-power V8 under the hood.

I didn't own one but a customer had one of these Buick wagons. A sleeper car in the street sense. The thing could get up and scoot. The drive felt like you were floating down the lazy river it was so soft. Room in the back for as many you could ask for too.

Any Mercedes that is a true AMG will only have two digits in the model name, and that’s even been bastardized with the new 43AMG line, as it’s not a hand built engine from the AMG builders.

That said, I love the wagons. The E63 Wagon has been a favorite of mine for ages.

Thanks for explaining this. I had no idea. Kinda shitty, IMO. If it says AMG, it shoudl be AMG, but oh well.

I lusted after one of these for a few years in the mid 2000's. An SRT Magnum (I never did buy one).

My mom rocked one of these for a few years in the mid 80's.

Drool.
So very few E Estates on the market when I was shopping, or they were out of the budget, and all the close ones were luxury trim not Sport/AMG trim.

Ended up in a '15 C300 Sport.

Really wish MB offered the C Estate in the US, it would've been near my top choices.

I looked at the VW Alltrack as well, but the performance was pretty lacking with the base Golf/Jetta engine pushing the AWD.
Really liked how it drove & was more like a GTT than the Golf SportWagen.

My C300 has the AMG Sport pkg on it. AMG wheels, flootmats, flat bottom steering wheel & sport bumpers.
Have had people get in my car & give me the "Oh wow, you have an AMG?"
No, just the Sport pkg, with the AMG-look goodies & stiffer suspension.

That's why manufacturers had to raise them up and call them SUV's to sell them again.

It's really a shame my mom hit black ice and wrapped the '73 Vista Cruiser w/455 motor around a tree at the end of the street Jim Gantner lived on. That was the largest engine we ever had in a car.

I'd drive a Sport wagon.

I love wagons. A few of my favorites I've owned are a '65 Chevy Belair, '76 Volvo, and a 2002 Volvo. Unfortunately it's hard to get the best of the breed here in the US because there is so little demand for them in our market. OTOH, Europe still embraces the concept. Last year we rented an Opel Insignia sport wagon in Amsterdam and put about 1000 miles on it. My wife and kids loved it, and I liked the 6-speed manual. That car is actually sold in the US as a Buick, but they have dumbed it down mechanically (no manual option) and tarted it out with a bunch of useless plastic body cladding.
