The Sport wagon? Am I the only one smitten by them? Login/Join

Been thinking a bit more seriously about buying a new (to me) vehicle. I've always had a huge amount of affection for the 'Sport Wagon' many manufacturers have put out over the years. As I've primarily shopped SUV's, I've been pulled back to the sport wagon for its utility and value, along with a ride and drive quality far exceeding that of any SUV. And there just is no substitute for Germany quality. Smile

So with all of that said, I've found this 2015 Mercedes Benz E350 AMG wagon (28k miles), and am smitten by it.

Am I crazy to drive a German mom mobile, or does thing escape the mom mobile stigma?

Has to be more enjoyable to drive than all but a few SUV’s.

Love the Deutsche quality but not so much for the "wagon" part.
Might be a good car for mamma though.

Functional, plus fun to drive. What's not to like?

I like mine a bit larger, though. Something like a Turbo Forester.

Still reminds me of the Plymouth station wagon my sisters and I had to drive in high school. Even with the MB tristar I say “no thanks”. I swore I’d never drive another station wagon.

My brother tells me it takes a special kinda person to love the sport wagon thing. Special in that context has a few different meanings. Wink Best part? Mamma wants nothing to do with it. That means no curb rash on the wheels. Razz

I'll take that over any SUV. Needs wood paneling though.

I did too...until I drove one. Its was insanely fast, but short of that, ride quality and built quality were terrible in a car costing that much money. The E350 isn't near as fast, but it drives and rides miles better.

The AMG should be close to as fast as the CTS-V. AMGs are the top of the line.

It would be much more appealing without the AMG engine. Yes, I know the power those have, but it comes at a price. Why non a non-AMG one?

I may be getting an E350 late this year, or early next. My neighbor has one for his wife. She almost never drives it. 2013 4Matic with 10k miles! He originally wanted to trade it in on a G Wagen. Dealer told him they'd give him $20k for it. I think he said he paid close to $65 got it back in 2013. For $20k he said he'd keep it...I have a feeling she will want something different real soon... I get the right of first refusal on it! (hopefully)

One nice wagon you have there.

Station wagons. Good memories. Even the name is unusual.

Wagons are legal in Loading Zones.
But not an SUV.
'Cause, you know, it's not a delivery vehicle for all occasions and means.

If this is of any help (for the 2018 model):

quote:
Supercar-smacking acceleration is so easy in the E63 wagon that you could teach the most nervous neophyte how to do it in less than a minute: From a dead stop, with Sport, Sport+, or Race mode selected, just hold the brake, floor the throttle until the revs plateau (about 3500 rpm), and release the brake. Then hold on while the force sends everything not securely anchored—hats, purses, backpacks, briefcases, or, yes, that cliché load of groceries—into a violent encounter with the seatbacks, the liftgate, or whatever the closest vertical surface behind it may be. There is little to no wheelspin, only explosive forward motion that pulls the corners of your mouth into an involuntary grin and flattens any loose skin on your face—an instant facelift that lasts exactly as long as one has the nerve to keep his or her foot planted.

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I love them, if I did not have to drive through deep mud to hunt I would totally own one. If they brought back the WRX wagon I would be sooooo tempted.
