Wow! I'm in Corpus. My work is downtown. I can see the bay from the front windows. Thursday we moved stuff off the first floor, unplugged computers, started prepping our disaster recovery plan for network resources if our building got knocked out, and snadbagged all the doors. Then home to board up windows. Entire neighborhood was boarding up. Neighbors helping neighbors who were already done. As the storm came in I was afraid my newly put together metal shed was going to rip apart. I have it anchored into the ground with those 30in augers and steel cable. Luckily it held up well. Have some fences to repair. What I built is fine, sections with the neighbors need to be replaced, rebuilt. Snapped 4x4 posts. All in all I faired very well compared to some other areas, specially surrounding towns where the eye made landfall.

Smarter than the average bear |
Another extremely generous karma, and for a good cause. I've donated financially to help those who have been displaced. Fortunately, my family and friends have been spared by Harvey. Katrina was a different story.

I'm headed to Houston on 9/18 for work and plan on assisting my brother clean (Cypress, near Longwood Golf Club) out his house - carpets, flooring, drywall etc. He gets home tomorrow and will know the extent of the damage. He's just got over the April 2016 damage that was out of pocket. If I qualify and win, I'd like to pass it along to my brother. I couldn't imagine a transfer to CA being practical. Prayers and positive vibe to Houston. This sucks. P229

Please throw my name in there. I have about 6 to 8 friends that are in Texas now from here in the Baton Rouge area. Some with boats rescuing people and some went to cook for the Texans. If my name is drawn I will see that one of them gets the rifle. Thank you. I donated some money to Samaritan's Purse. They did a great job here in my part of Louisiana last August when we had our historic flood. This message has been edited. Thanks for the generous karma. We sent a pretty hefty donation. So tough to see so many people hurting. I have a soft spot for Texans after I went to college there. Count me in if you will, and THANK YOU __________________________ The entire reason for the Second Amendment is not for hunting, it’s not for target shooting … it’s there so that you and I can protect our homes and our children and and our families and our lives. Please do not include me. I wanted to thank you for your generous efforts, as well as the other Forum members who are helping out. While the Federal Government and relief groups can help in a big way, it is really about people helping other people. Having experienced Hurricane Katrina twelve years ago, I know personally that the offer to help makes a huge difference as well as displaying empathy for the victims. These sorts of things produce severe emotional trauma for many, and the kindness of strangers is appreciated.

Proud to say that our company's area reps are providing water, food, baby formula and our products to help out on the front lines. They are also matching our donations up to $500 to any suitable non-profit organization. “I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.”

Thankful that we seem to be on the downhill slope of the weather. Luckily, we escaped any flooding, only by a few feet. Our whole street donated a car full of food to the local Cajun Navy group that was based at a nearby high school. Would've offered up rooms in our homes, but we have no running water currently. We also took a carload of supplies to our church for distribution to those in need. Along with donating some recently replaced furniture to a couple local families. Thanks for the generous offer, hope your home & family are doing well. This message has been edited. Last edited by: P250UA5, The Enemy's gate is down.

The wife and I spent time yesterday gathering up stuff to take to a collection center nearby. We also donated at our church, who was collecting for aid specifically for those in need. I'm in the D/FW area, so this devastation hits pretty close to home. I can't imagine the scope of how much aid will be needed in the months and years to come. The wife and I have plans this Friday to do another round of shopping and head up to the collection center with a full pick up bed of necessities. I'd love a chance at this very generous offering, as I am currently rifleless. Thank you for your generosity, and my God Bless all of the families affected by this awful storm. You are a very generous person. I have donated to a local charity. Please do not include me in the karma. Thank you for doing this.

Very generous karma, sir. We've donated to the Matthew 25 Ministries here in Ohio that sends a lot of supplies and drives supply trucks to areas around the country. I've helped my youngest gather up canned goods (with the flip tops--easier to open) for the relief effort. While nowhere near the scale of any hurricane, I had gone down with some volunteers with my previous employer and teamed up with some National Guardsmen in Falmouth, Kentucky when that town flooded in 1997. I was tasked with carting a wheelbarrow with plaster and concrete pried off the walls and parts of the foundation for a homeowner we were helping to get down to the wood to let the lower house frame dry. So many of the Falmouth townsfolk wandered around in almost a catatonic state. It was heart-rendering. That was one town nearly 20 years ago...I can only imagine the magnitude of the destruction in multiple towns and cities in Texas and adjoining states. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people suffering. If you like religion, laws or sausage, then you shouldn't watch them being made.

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do. |
I went in bit different direction, I am sending a donation to www.austinpetsalive.org as they are trying to help the pets involved in all this. A saved & returned pet will help many dealing with this tragedy. Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.

Of course you know I had to send a few clams to help the little hawk out! http://www.twrcwildlifecenter.org/donate/ We took a case of water down to WSBTV for their relief drive, plus my work place is having a drive so I got a big box of crunchy bag snax in the crates we are shipping to one of the relief shelters Friday. ____________________________ Eeewwww, don't touch it! Spent 4 days in and around the house holding our breath and helping our immediate neighbors. We had a couple of scary moments, but got lucky and got the breaks in the rain that we needed. We're still somewhat isolated, but started getting out yesterday and helping neighbors in our general area, that were less fortunate than we were. Heart breaking to see the damage in others homes, but somewhat therapeutic getting out of the house, seeing sunshine, and helping others. As obnoxious and selfish as Houston drivers typically are, it's pretty amazing seeing how they behave in a crisis like this.

This is fantastic. I have donated to Red Cross and sent a bunch of supplies down to my brother in San Antonio to be distributed in the affected areas. Please include me in this most generous Karma

My brother and his family were at ground zero during the 2013 Lyons, CO flood. They lost pretty much everything (they did not live in a flood plain so no flood insurance). FEMA was absolutely useless. The American Red Cross on the other hand did some good! I made a generous donation today and will in the days ahead (it's very easy in the Costco, King Soopers, or Safeway check out line)! God bless everyone helping and Thank-you for the chance at the generous karma.
