I think this struck a nerve with many people in Iowa (including me) because this is "not supposed to happen" in small town Iowa - where nobody locks their doors and most leave their keys in the car. Reward fund was started and quickly grew to over $400,000. The family worked hard to keep this in front of the media and I'm sure that helped to influence FOX to cover as much as it did.

I am from a small town in Iowa just like Brooklyn. I raised my 4 daughters there and we usually didnt lock our doors unless we were gone. I would not do that today if I still lived there.

When my youngest graduated HS in 2003, the rural schools were 99%+ white. Today, schools are 1/4 Hispanic in many nearby small towns. Probably many here illegally. Please forgive me if I sound like a "racist." I am not. But facts are facts. And that is one of the biggest problems we have in this country. We cannot discuss facts which are politically incorecct. If we can't/don't stop the influx of illegals into this country, we will not continue to exist as America. It is the main reason I supported Donald Trump since the day he announced he was running for Pesident.

Yes, the midwest states are supposed to be "safe" areas, but we know there is no such thing as a "safe" area anymore.

That is one reason I always carried a handgun on me when I rode my Gold Wing on cross country trips.

And even into western coast states.

I read a headline of a suspect in custody and had my hopes up until I read his story prepping his insanity defense of realizing there was a dead body in his trunk. At least the cops got to the body before a combine did in the fall and the family got some closure. Tragic.

Earlier today Yahoo described him as an "immigrant" but left out the illegal part.

Several years ago, my wife and I visited one of the Galapagos Islands while on an ecotour, and had the opportunity to dine with a woman who lived there with her husband and children. The woman's husband worked on the mainland (Ecuador), and his employer required him to leave the island for extended periods of time. While most of our conversation was pleasant, at one point, she confided to us, "You wouldn't believe how dangerous it is for a woman to be here, without a husband to protect her from the other men. If you're alone, they look at you as a target and there's no way to protect yourself."

This isn't about "race", its about culture. The claims about America having a "rape culture" (generally and specifically regarding college and university campuses), are BS. If the people that so casually toss about these allegations actually spent some time abroad and learned what happens in other countries, they'd thank God that they lived here. Our system of justice isn't perfect by any means, but compared to some "shitholes"....

This girl, as tragic as it is, was an extreme liberal and probably had the same incorrect thoughts of many that think if you're nice to someone they won't do anything but be nice to you. Unfortunately they can't imagine something like this happening until it's too late.
