I'm in and all wired up. Had initial doc consult. I guess they move fast when there's a possible stroke.

I have moderate high BP. 5mg of Lisisopril/day has it under control. My Bp's been running under 120/80 recently. Sometimes as low as 110/65.

Thanks for the well-wishes, y'all Smile

Yes, in the retina, vein occlusions are far more common. At points in the retinal vasculature, veins cross arteries. The pressure is higher in the artery, so the vein loses out at these intersections, gets pinched off. The loss of blood flow to a section of the retina causes a visual defect- a spot or darkening in that area of the visual field. The occlusion can rupture and hemmorage, causing further obscuration of the visual field. BRVOs are common as can be for retinal specialists.

Arterial occlusions? It's been a couple of decades, but I recall documenting talc retinopathy.

I'd get Neuro consults pretty regularly from the eye clinic at the VA hospital I worked at to do stroke evals when the eye docs found certain ocular arterial occusions or history suspicious for amaurosis fugax. It sounds like the OP is getting a stroke work up now and I hope this proves successful! I sincerely wish the OP a quick return to good health!

I went to a very well known Retina Clinic in Memphis when I thought my retina had detached a 2nd time. The Rookie Doctor who performed my 1st surgery examined my eye for 30 minutes and concluded everything was fine. I insisted on seeing the Senior Doctor at the clinic. After waiting 3 hours, He came in and within 5 minutes told the other Doctor where it was detached.

After 4 retina and a Cataract surgery, I feel like an expert.

ensigmatic,

I wish you the best.

Para,

On two different occasions, I had to lay face down for 10 days after surgery. A family member would read the posts from Sigforum to me. One of the bright spots during a life changing time. Wink

Oddly enough, I'm feeling pretty mellow. It is what it is, I guess. *shrug*

One good thing to come out of this WuFlu nonsense: I've just learned I won't have to share a room. That's terrifically good news, because the last time I overnighted here my roommate must have had dementia or something. He was ranting and raising hell all night long.

Thanks for the well-wishes.

BTW: They've CT-scanned mah haid, sonogrammed my heart, taken blood, EKG'd me, and done a bunch of other tests. So far it seems I'll live. More tests tomorrow.

BTW2: The eye doc that saw me, earlier, was really cute Big Grin

Seems odd that if it is a BRVO it wasn’t seen initially.

Typically, there can be significant hemorrhage present...but who knows why there may not have been in your case.

Fluorescein angiography (as mentioned) is probably in your future; an OCT scan-while good at replacing some fluorescein angiography-is still not as good for BRVO.

With early diagnosis and treatment, there may be little residual problem once resolved...but lifestyle factors will be analyzed.

Best of luck-sounds like you’re in good hands, and you have gotten some very good information here.

It sounds like you're in good spirits and getting good treatment. Hopefully your vision returns to normal and if it prevented something worse then it was a good head's up.

Wasn't all my vision that was impaired--just part of it Smile

Just had a visit/interview/tests from my neurologist--who, it turns out, has ordered more tests. yay.

Meanwhile, the vision artifact that started all this appears too be abating. It now covers a fraction of my visual field it did yesterday
