I know it is hard to believe, but I have been on this planet for well over half a century, and I have never had a BLT (bacon, lettuce, and tomato) sandwich. Today, I rectified that hole in my existence: ![]() One reason, perhaps, that I have not had a BLT is that most people slather them with mayonnaise, and I absolutely do not like mayo. After checking one of the popular online and YouTube culinary channels, I settled on the following modifications: 1) I microwaved the bacon, rather than cooking in the oven. Not great, I know, but I was short on time. 2) No mayo, but instead I used lightly melted swiss cheese 3) Bread was a sandwich sized croissant Over all, quite delicious, and I will certainly make on again. Hopefully with bacon smoked on the pellet grill. This space intentionally left blank.

And you went all the way. Looks good. _____________________________________________ I may be a bad person, but at least I use my turn signal.

Mayo is what MAKES a BLT! It's not a BLT without it to me. I'd do very ripe avocado next time and omit the cheese, cheese does not belong on a BLT.

Smoked bacon on the pellet grill is awesome stuff... ![]()

I'm actually not too big on lettuce in sandwiches. But when I do, I usually soak lettuce in ice water for a bit to make it crispy. I'm not partial to limpy lettuce. That being said, I've been inclined to use thinly sliced cucumbers instead of lettuce. Or just forego and leave it at bacon and tomato. I like them better with mayo, but a BLT is good with Miracle Whip too... ![]() 'veritas non verba magistri'

Swiss cheese and croissant? Never tried it that way, but you got my mouth watering! I'll have to try it. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

Arguing what goes in a BLT reminds me that we had a member that said he substituted a hamburger patty and slice of cheese for the bacon in his BLTs.

Looks good. I agree with the OP, I can't stand mayo or miracle whip. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." Agree. Lettuce isn’t worth space it occupies. A thick heirloom tomato slice, bacon, and mayo on a hamburger bun. Serious about crackers.

For me, the quality of the tomato is the most important factor. It should be from a fruit of sufficient size to cover the bread/bun, and to have been picked from the vine no less than an hour before eating. At least a generous 1/4" thick, and salted before assembly. I don't require an heirloom variety, a Big Boy or Park's Whopper style is fine. Lettuce should be iceberg, very crispy, and sliced across the grain, also 1/4" thick. Bacon can be most any style, but thick sliced is better, and must be of sufficient quantity to stand up to the other ingredients. If you are using more than three layers (and why not?), you can put the tomato and lettuce between bacon layers. And, oh yeah, a quality mayo is required, Hellmann's or Duke's, no Sysco, store brand, or Miracle Whip will ever get near my BLT. Bread? Sourdough or a Croissant, lightly toasted. I usually pick the first non-cherry tomato out of the garden right around the Fourth of July, it is usually consumed without accompaniment, but the second one almost always goes straight into a BLT.

Congrats on joining civilization. I could quibble with your recipe, but it looks delicious! I'm guilty of adding cheese to mine sometimes too.

I rarely buy lettuce because it spoils too quickly before I can eat it all. Spinach both keeps and tastes better. Some other bread varieties that could be used are kaiser rolls and hamburger buns.

Yay Congrats on a great looking sammich! There are many variants as you are now in the club. I'd like to suggest the BLTE. Yes, a fried egg on top is a nice bonus. Cheers~

Now, you have truly lived.
Have you tried Duke's? I grew up in the Upper Midwest and never liked that vile, slimy condiment. That includes Helmann's, Kraft, Gordon's Food Service, etc. Then, I moved to Texas and a Sigforumite raved about Duke's so I tried it. Now it's in my fridge as close to 365 days a year as possible. I had a roast beef sandwich with it just yesterday. I haven't had one in a few years, I prefer with with a fresh from the garden tomato. Not picky about bread, just toasted. Also, I put miracle whip on it, it's the only time I use MW. I guess because when I was a kid, that's what we had in the house
