You can have on campus seminars-- often sponsored by gender studies departments-- featuring "sex workers" talking about group sex, anal sex, bondage. But you can't say the word "lingerie?" Is that what was so terrible?

What was so terrible was that in saying "ladies lingerie" he evinced either ignorance of the way professors are permitted by the PC police to speak-- and joke-- or outright defiance of those rules.

This was about one thing: power.

She won, but it was the way a parasite may be said to win if the host organism fails to kill or eject it.

What happened to the first swing is free?

The fairly large multinational company that I worked for made it very plain. In the training they gave us they made it clear that the "victim" was obligated to advise the offender that the behavior was unwanted or offensive and please stop. Only IF it continued after the warning did the victim have any claim. It seemed a very good way to handle it to me. Hell... saying nothing at all offends some people because you didn't acknowledge them!

They should make a law making it illegal to talk to or look at women in academic settings or on college campuses. That'd eliminate the rapes and other offenses only men are capable of committing.

I've gotta wonder what can the ISA possibly do? I'm not part of academia so I have no idea.

If an international assoc pulled this shit with me I'd tell them to fuck off.

They can kick him out of their club and lose his dues. That's really it. No conferences and no papers presented or published. There are other avenues for him though. I'm sure that even among this particular group of pinheads there are some who see this as totally ridiculous. He's 76 and in retirement mode as it is. He's far more accomplished than the humorless wretch who pushed this. He's a dinosaur in the ivory tower who didn't realize exactly how dirty the game has become or maybe just doesn't give a fuck. He might actually be a fun guy to have a drink with. The sniveling brat who blew this up is the reason people drink.

Me and a cousin actually do just that from time to time. Heads spin and smoke comes out ears especially when I play the race card. Oh, you assumed I'm white?

My wife bought me one of those last year, I am 1 percent African. Some black folks get upset when I tell them I'm black too!

Last month, Richard Ned Lebow, a professor of political theory at King's College, found himself in a crowded elevator with Simona Sharoni, a professor of gender studies at Merrimack College, during an academic conference in San Francisco. Sharoni asked Lebow what floor he needed. He replied: "ladies' lingerie."

It was a stupid joke—a "standard gag line," Lebow later explained, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education. But Sharoni didn't think it was funny. And so she filed a complaint with the International Studies Association, whose conference they were both attending.

Where’s Dennis Hopper’s character from Speed when you need him? A whole elevator car full of like-minded academics in SF...missed opportunity

A former co-chair of the Board of Directors of the Peace and Justice Studies Association (PJSA) and its founding Executive Director, Sharoni has played a key role in advocating for the centrality of feminist perspectives to peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

A former co-chair of the Board of Directors of the Peace and Justice Studies Association (PJSA) and its founding Executive Director, Sharoni has played a key role in advocating for the centrality of feminist perspectives to peacebuilding and conflict resolution. In addition to gender justice, Dr. Sharoni’s activist experience involves primarily campus sexual assault, anti-racism work, political prisoners’ solidarity work, community organizing for justice and peace, and solidarity work with Palestinians and other oppressed groups.
She's a Jewish antisemite to boot. Big surprise.

This. It was a stupid comment and he opened the door for crazy to take it to the extreme. Anybody who works in a corporate environment these days would have cringed at his comment if they were in the elevator. It’s like he was asking for HR to jump his ass.

It may be true that HR would have jumped him anywhere, but we shouldn't find ourselves in that position. The mere mention of ladies underwear shouldn't generate even mild upset, never mind outrage.

I hate her. Israel is probably the must egalitarian country on the planet. The Palestinians not so much. But of course she's a leftist masquerading as a feminist.

And wtf? "Co-founder of the group Faculty Against Rape." So there are faculty who are in favor of rape?

They are so insufficiently against rape that they might as well be for it.
