My W2 came today and I did mine tonight. Actually did them twice because I thought it couldn't be right. So glad I didn't wait another month or so.

I owe more than my last four refunds combined.
Feeling kind of sick right now.

Not yet. I think everything I need has come in so I will start on them this weekend. Once I buy the tax software I also have to go do them for my Mom. I have done my Mom’s taxes for the last three years since my Dad died.

All W2s, 1098s, and 1099s, are to be mailed, or posted electronically NLT January 31st. Even if you're getting paper copies through the mail you should have everything by the end of the first week in February.

I pulled all my documents electronically today, and received a mailed W2 today. Only one mutual fund has not posted a 1099, but I'm sure it will be online by the end of the day Wednesday.

You should never have to wait until March.

So far I've seen one W-2 come in the mail (mine). Need to print off the 1099-INTs, wait for the mortgage statement, and then get the wife's stuff together. Just mail it off to the accountant, and magic happens.

That's for the first one. An accurate one takes longer.

Wow.

I walked around sick and depressed all day today. I couldn't figure out how I could owe that much ($7k). Eek researched, looked at tax brackets and rates... it doesn't make sense!

Tonight I started from scratch. Going along, I type in an $8k+ figure and my brain says..."I don't remember typing that number last night?" A glimmer of hope starts to flicker. It frightened me, not wanting to be crushed like I was last night.

I don't owe $7k and I'm getting a couple hundred bucks more back than normal. I feel like I just got a reprieve from death row.

Probably a good thing my screw up was off by so much. Had it been a grand or two I probably would have paid it and never checked the extra 3rd and 4th time.

ETA: I owe the state $5.
I work for the state.... I'll have to take a long lunch tomorrow. Big Grin

Software. I was a wee bit sleep deprived at the time. Obviously never a good way to do your taxes, but I didn't start with the intention of doing them in full. I must have accidentally skipped the same thing twice.

The deadline for employers to have W2's in the mail to employees is January 31st. Why are you still waiting until mid March?
For me, it's because I always have to pay a little - so I'm in no hurry.
I'm not one of those get-it-in quick because I have a huge refund coming guys.
I can't see letting the Gov't have any of my money they aren't entitled to extort from me any sooner than I have to.

I understand that. He said he didn't receive his tax documents until mid-march. That is what I was questioning.

I have to pay every year and don't complete my taxes until April. I have everything I need long before that.

Being self employed my CPA prepares the taxes for October submission. I cannot remember when I filed in April. I pay 110 percent of the previous years taxes on April 15th. I need the remainder of the year to earn the money to put into my self funded retirement account.

Of course I am getting the figures together, it takes a good bit of time. In the meantime I can think of the worthwhile governmental programs I am supporting. LOL

Got my federal tax return today. Small amount but at least I'm not overpaying them. No state tax for me since my home of record is Nevada.

Everybody knows, I ass-u-me, that a refund was your money to begin with and you're just getting back what you overpaid. You aren't making money off the government. With that said, I make sure I withhold enough so I get some money back, the purpose being not to get a big refund, but to not have to pay. I got stuck with a $1400 bill once when I didn't do that. My refund this year is to be $582.
