First gun was a new West German Sig 226. I did my research and settled on the decocker instead of a safety. I followed that up with a Sig 225 for my wife. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." My father bought my brother and I matching Ruger 10/22s when we were 10/11 or thereabouts. The first firearm I ever bought myself was a blued Taurus 445 2" .44 Special revolver. Knew almost nothing about guns or I'd never have bought it: Taurus reputation in the 1990s, ammo was expensive, bulky and heavy... Eventually sold it but it was a cool gun that I wish I still had just for nostalgia. My first GOOD gun buy was a used S&W M25 in .45 Colt that I _REALLY_ wish I still had but that I sold when I found out I was PCSing overseas. ETA: Just remembered, somewhere between those two was a Winchester 120 Ranger 12g shotgun that I still have. So, first gun... first GOOD gun, and first gun that I still own.
Oh, I feel better about the Taurus now. Thanks. "I am a Soldier. I fight where I'm told and I win where I fight." GEN George S. Patton, Jr.

My dad bought me a 410 no name bolt action shotgun... we sanded... buffed... polished that action and barrel to mirror reflection and blued it I then finished the stock I'd never sell that gun "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. My 'first' gun was a NEF .410 single shot. That I learned to hunt with. At the age of nine the adult shot was a HUGE challenge. I quote it as my dad claims it's his. Currently it's in my brother's gun room, as his daughter has been shooting and hunting with it. Still with the adult stock. (One of these days we're going to need to buy a youth stock for that gun...) The first gun that was unequivocally mine was my Mossberg 500 combo that my dad gave me for Christmas when I was 16. First gun I bought with my own money was a Ruger 22/45. I was going to enter law enforcement and it was reccomended to me to get a .22 handgun to learn the basics while keeping the ammo cost to a minimum. Worked great. I figure that gun has 30k+ rounds through it with no parts replaced. I still have it. First gun that I did a 4473 for? Hmmmmm.... Was likely the S&W 642 that I carried off duty/CCW. Traded it for a Kahr P45. Nick "I cannot imagine any condition which would cause a ship to founder. I cannot conceive of any vital disaster happening to this vessel. Beyond a long line of BB guns when I was a kid, I came to firearms and shooting kind of late in life...a P226 in '03, which was what brought me here to SigForum. I don't have that gun anymore, unfortunately, but I'm still here @ SF.

My first firearm was a Savage 42 .410/.22LR combo gun. I was 11 years old and I saved up my grass cutting money and my dad got it for me. I remember going to the gun store and getting it and 4 boxes of .410 shotshells and 500 rounds of .22LR. Man, did I think that I had something! We took it out and sighted it in and the next weekend was the early squirrel season. I went with my neighbor, a friend of my dad's and killed 6 squirrel! 3 headshot with the .22LR. 1 body shot with the .22LR 2 with the .410 bore, because I couldn't get a good enough sight for the .22LR. There were a few misses, but I was extremely happy. I remember that day well. It was the day I came home from hunting and my dad gave me his old Winchester model 97, that was my grandfather's. I wasn't 12 yet and I had an Arsenal! With the Winchester model 97 and a box of 12ga. Shotshells and my Savage 42. They proudly hung on the wall in a simple gunrack that my dad helped me build. Still have the old Winchester model 97, but the Savage 42 is long gone. I miss that combo gun. It was very handy. ARman
