We have solar panels on our house and 2 EVs in the garage.

We are thinking about a 3rd EV. The Ford Fathom pickup truck.

We are looking at it for a little run around and the occasional dump run usage.

We don’t like putting garbage in our Mercedes EQS 450 or my Mach E.

The Fathom is coming out mid 27. It will be the first vehicle with Fords new UEV platform. Universal EV platform. Starting price is $28,350.

The Fathom will be a great choice for 90% of pickup owners if they are realistic about their uses. Just like the Honda Ridgeline would be a better choice than an F-150 or Tacoma for most suburban dwellers like me.

What does one do with hybrid or EV cars if it’s going to sit in the garage unused for 2-3 months (or more). Hybrid - just connect a battery tender? EV - same? Do nothing?

i would plug in the charger, the car would charge to the limit set, 80% for me, and it would go to sleep until you got back into it.

Why do you say it would sit unused for 2-3 months?

If it was the case then a battery tinder for the 12v.

When I ordered my Tesla Model 3 Premium the estimated delivery date was: “Sep 9 – Sep 30”

It’s been stubbornly stuck at that date ever since. Until today. Now it’s: “Oct – Nov” Frown

Tesla can’t build them fast enough. AI Overview:

“Model 3 production at the Tesla Fremont Factory operates 24/7 using 12-hour rotating shifts on a two-week alternating schedule.

Daily Shift Times
Day Shift: Runs from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Night Shift: Runs from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

Workweek Rotation
Two-Week Cycle: Employees work 12 hours a day for 4 days one week, and 3 days the next week.

Continuous Operations: Production runs around the clock across assembly, body, and paint lines to meet output goals.”

The Fremont plant is damned big.

Serious about crackers.

I have two friends who are avid tesla fans; one has had more than 6+ (not sure exactly how many) over the past 10 years.

Both enjoy their teslas but strongly advise a thorough examination at delivery. The build quality is inconsistent, ranging from various rattles to misalignment in body panels resulting in gaps that are unseemly and unbecoming a $50+ car.

Two year leases - may not matter much. But if you plan to keep the car for 10+ years, then check carefully is the advice. Tesla generally made things right, either through repairs up to replacing the car. But kind of a hassle.

I'm still considering the Y but very strongly leaning toward the Camry AWD; even one of the tesla fans suggested that was probably the right choice for me and my needs.

I ordered a Tesla Model 3 Premium RWD on July 29. So far I’ve seen these delivery estimate windows:
Sep 9 - Sep 30 (Jul 29)
Oct 18 - Nov 22 (Sep 3)
Oct 20 - Nov 17 (Oct 6)
Oct 17 - Oct 31 (Oct 12)
Dec 6 - Dec 31 (Oct 18)

I refuse to believe that a company that can build a self-driving car (and the flying Tesla Roadster) could be so hopelessly inept at predicting delivery dates.

Rather, I think Tesla shamelessly spews lies, knowing that new purchasers would cancel their orders if they knew the grim truth. I’ve been teased along for months, so at this point I’ll probably hang on for “just a couple of more months.”

Yeah, I’m pissed.

Well, I would be too, however with $5 a gallon Trump Gas, EV's are selling like hotcakes..... Two years ago Tesla couldn't give them away, the Y was heavily discounted, no longer, the prices are holding up, and used prices are up.

You're a victim of market timing with the extortion of high gas prices by oil companies worldwide...

I only see a problem with the last update. Two issues: it was only one week after the previous update and pushes out by 2 months. The other updates just tightened the range. Why the order was pushed two months only one week after the prior update is curious.

We ordered our Model Y RWD Premium on 9/14. Got delivery date of 10/2 to 10/30. Then it jumped to 10/9 to 11/8. And then on 10/6, we got a vin and delivery available on 10/8 or 10/9.

We did everything that night and it was a piece of cake.

I think they are building these by batches and depending on what model/trim you pick, that is going to determine when you are getting it. Also, once in a blue moon, you get bumped up when there is a cancellation. Some people apparently have no patience and just bail.

That said, any sig member ordering one, email me as if you use a referral code from a Tesla owner, you get 3 months of FSD for free and they get $250 of Tesla credit. You can add it as long as you haven't taken delivery. If you got a buddy, get it from them. If you don't, let me know.

That isn't unusual at all.

Car are built in batches and not by how the cars are ordered. How the batches are produced is determined by the factory based on demand. It is easy for the way you've ordered a car to fall into a eariler or later batch depending on the number of cars, and how they are equipped, ordered nationwide

I get the concept of batch manufacturing.

So, when PS ordered his car in July, why did PS get a target delivery date of Sept? And then mid-late Oct while in early Oct? And then pushed 2 months to Dec while still in early Oct?

How is the order submission related to the delivery date in all of this? When is his order actually in the line and what dictates when his order is actually in the line? Is it some special config that is delayed for special parts in the supply chain? Or if just one of thousands of the same config, why the push?

If I had to guess, it has to do with the way you order the car. Everything is done through the app. Given the automation, I am sure the system takes the order coming in and efficiently set up production based on it. Then you are update accordingly. The range is giving them time to adjust. The ringer is the occasional cancellation that bumps you up the line.

Frankly, I think that happened to us. I think that we were not supposed to get it for another few weeks but someone cancelled and we got moved up in the queue.

Opportunistic pull-in makes sense.

But what explains this, especially since the build process is not overly complicated like other brands. There isn't too much to customize during the build that seems like it would add much to the build time.

Oct 12: expecting delivery w/in a couple of weeks.

Oct 18: delivery pushed out 2 months (Oct 31 to Dec 31). What changed in 6 days that pushes delivery from next week to 2 months later?

Oct 17 - Oct 31 (Oct 12)
Dec 6 - Dec 31 (Oct 18)

It’s really very simple. Tesla lies through its teeth so customers won’t cancel their orders. Many would if Tesla told them the actual probable delivery window up front.

So your presumption is that when you ordered in July, assuming you take delivery by end of December, your delivery date has always been December in reality but they indicated sept at the beginning under false pretenses?

When I ordered the Model 3 on July 29 Tesla “estimated” a delivery window of:
Sep 9 – Sep 30 (a bald faced lie to keep me hooked)

Now Tesla “estimates” delivery as:
Dec 6 – Dec 31

I refuse to believe that was an honest mistake. Lying bastards.

If you take delivery 6 months after order submission and the new model year is available, will they give you the same configuration in the new model year? If not, seems like it’s worth canceling and reordering a 2027.
