If the income tax would disappear I don't think MAGA would lose another election. EVER! This would be another hot button to watch the Democrats figure out a way to oppose without utterly destroying themselves at the polls. Being from Minnesota our real estate taxes will never go away they only continue to go up.

Just imagine- no income tax and no property tax. The former likely won't happen but the latter is already true in some states and the list seems to be growing.

I would favor either a flat tax, or a consumption based tax. Our tax code is much too complicated and intrusive. It's more social engineering than revenue generating.

As for the property tax, it too has gotten out of control. Local governments are harming people by getting greedy with re-assessments. It's all just based on inflation. People suffering the effects of price inflation shouldn't also get the double whammy of huge tax increases based on inflated valuation.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
-- Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Never understood why the left adores taxes so much.

Isn't a tax besides as a source of income for the Government, meant to deter or punish?

Additionally, they use it to perpetuate their division by painting anyone who is successful as bad, hence the "tax the rich" lie.

My stepmother is having an 80th birthday party next week with all her siblings and family on her side, she's the oldest of 15 kids and one of TWO conservatives out of the bunch. The rest are all Democrats and they apparently have all gone off the deep end since Trump won and many of them spend their days raging on FB with postings all day long about Nazi Elon and Orange Man Bad. I told her she better post a sign on the front door of her house that this party is a NO POLITICS ZONE or it's going to descend into chaos on her and they will ruin it.

I don't get these people at all. We never acted like this for 8 years of Obama and 4 years of Biden.

I don't mind income tax so much as long as the rates are reasonable, you only pay on money made. Property tax is the insidious one, not only do you pay every year on the same property (whether you have any income or not) it has a built in escalation as values increase and for inflation.

The best Western version of this is the VAT (Value Added TaX), Usually on everything, and often runs around 25%. I have lost track of the rate in the UK. What do our readers think of VAT in your country?

I remember the drought ~2008-2012 (I had 9 1/2" rain for all 2011). Mexico was taking more than their share of water, yet overflights showed full reservoirs in interior Mexico; they were balls-deep into planting corn for ethanol.

No other President before Donald Trump would have done this, and at least going back to the first Bush, it's not because they didn't have the money.

I know you know this, it is because we are not fascists.

The Left, this is what they do. Mao's Red Guard, Hitler's Brownshirts, Mussolini's Blackshirts: these groups are all mirrored in Occupy Wall Street, AntiFa, BLM and every Leftist group in the US I can recall going back to the 1960s.

The Left has been accultured to this for so long, they believe it is their right and their duty to scream at, and belittle, those who disagree with them.

PASig- I am very sorry your family is having to dread what should be a happy occasion.

She obviously didn't get the memo.

It has been a long time since I was living and working in the UK (late 80s). VAT was 17% then. I wonder how much it has increased?
