Thanks Prefontaine. Besides the Civic I also considered a GR Corolla, GR86, and Jetta GLI, I just didn't care for the Elantra for some reason. The GLI was comfortable with a nice interior but a few things just seemed a little cheap, and I was just a little concerned about VW reliability, maintenance cost, and resale. TBH the GR Corolla was just a little too much of a track car for what I wanted. I liked the GR86 other than it being just a little cramped (same with Miata) and I understand Toyota may be dropping the partnership with Subaru and stop selling it. This is actually my second SI, the first was a 1987 CRX SI which I ordered in a similar situation at full price (but no doc back then). Thanks, I hope so too P250! Just ordered Honda mud guards, all weather mats and trunk mat, at around 35% less than the dealer wanted. The other thing I'm considering is the spare tire kit. It comes from Honda with a bottle of tire sealer and a little compressor but there is room for a donut spare and jack. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Having had no spare on 2 cars, I'd encourage that decision. My Mercedes came on run flats from the factory. Awful. Swapped to all-seasons & carring a plug kit. My Mini has the space for a spare, but they never had them for the US market that I'm aware of. Supposedly it's not too hard to source the mounting for it. I, too, declined all the dealer fluff when I bought my F150. $2k worth of paint & fabric 'treatment'. They tried to push the 'it's already been applied'. I held firm & they came to a 'waive the warranty on them' which allows for the repair/replacement of covered parts. Was fine by me. The Enemy's gate is down.

OK P250 you convinced me, it's ordered. LOL they gave you the "paint and fabric treatment" just w/o the warranty. Since this is about dealers, I looked around the new cars on the lot at the dealer I just bought from and it's unbelievable the crap they try to force buyers to take. There was a loaded CRV with a sticker of $40,200. Then there was the dealer sticker that started at $40,200 and added another $2,101 which included shit like "black gloss emblems" $350 and "black lug nuts" $299. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

I'd have to look again, but those are factory Honda offerings, and those prices don't seem too far off the 'build & price' prices. Really need to check that the window sticker doesn't already have them & the dealer double dipping. Me, I prefer a debadged look. The Enemy's gate is down.

No jack? Get one. In May, I had to use the Odyssey’s for the first time. Had a puncture on the inside of the passenger side rear tire that I just couldn’t get at it without removing the tire. I can’t imagine it’d be any easier to get under a Civic SI. With the tire off, you can use your weight to push the plug in.

Yeah I ordered the whole kit which includes the donut spare wheel and tire, jack, lug wrench, and styrofoam lid which covers the spare and holds the jack. I may put the little included compressor in the motorcycle flat repair kit. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

The donut wheel does not come with a tire mounted, from what they told me a while back. You'll have to get that done elsewhere. I bought my 2017 Si for about 2.5K below retail since it was a late 2017 and the 2018's were already out. Also got low rate financing like 0.9%. A couple years ago the local dealer was asking 10% over list for Si's and I forgot how much extra for Type-R's - maybe 15%. I think things are back to normal now. I got my Integra Type-S for list, plus a minor doc fee, and no B.S. Finance chick got me 6.2% at a local bank versus the slightly higher rate Chase was offering. She was smart enough to know I wasn't going to go for any extended warranties so she didn't bother, except for the first time I got the wheel and tire because 265/30-19's are going to get banged up on Indianapolis roads. I hate to pay for it, but the Si had 3 tires replaced due to road damage during the first 2 years. Then two more a few years later. Based on the dealer experience, I might just stick with Acura from now on. I bet you could get an Ingegra A-Spec Manual, which is bascially a Civic Si for retail, but it's a fair bit more than an Si.

I've got an Airmoto pump, nice & compact, and easy to stash, even in the limited storage in my Mini. Edit: Missed that the car came with the compressor. The Enemy's gate is down.

The kit I ordered included the tire already mounted to the wheel. Awe the pre-covid prices..... I bought my 2019 Corolla HB SE in 2019 for $18,100 which was well under list and just sold it 7 years later for $15,900. Yeah I looked at the Acura Integra but for a manual transmission they only put it in the expensive A-spec version which includes a few things I'd like but a lot of stuff I didn't want. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Don't get me wrong Lefty, I really liked the Integra version and even though Acura dealers are farther away would have paid $2-$3,000 more for the semi adaptive suspension and leather seats. But I believe it was more like $7,000 to $8,000 more. Then again some of that difference should be recouped on resale when eventually sold so maybe I should have? No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

I agree it's not really worth the increase in price. I would buy an Si before an A-Spec Manual because the Si is all about affordable fun. Especially for a daily commuter car that is going to rack up miles and get beat up on the interstates. I had a 125 mile round trip commute before COVID and put on 30K miles or so a year. But once you get into the Type-R / Type-S it changes a bit. I hate the stupid tall wing on the back of the Type-R, dealers generally don't let you test drive them, and you deal with all the typical dealer silliness in both sales and service. But if the Honda dealers are upcharging got the Si and Type-R, and the Acura dealers aren't, then the cost difference can be lower, even negligible as recent as late 2023.

I briefly considered a Civic Type R because the dealer had one in transit, unspoken for, when I went in to order the SI. Even after declining and ordering the SI they said "if you change your mind for the R just call and we can apply your deposit to it". But like you I really didn't want the wing on the back, the way I drive the extra power would seldom be utilized, it gets 10+ mpg less than the SI, and costs over $12,000 more. If Acura offered the Integra A-spec with manual transmission I would have probably spent the extra $3-4,000 for it. But they don't, you must get the A-spec "with technology" to get the manual and that version is $7-8,000 more which is a lot to add on essentially a $32,000 car. I wouldn't be surprised if they change to Hybrid on the next Gen SI, Type R, and Integra A-spec, if so there goes the manual for good. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Am I the only one that doesn’t like the rev-matching? That’s the first thing I disabled when I bought my Type R. Maybe I just don’t know how to use it? Growing on MTs, I never had the option. Should I use it?

Member![]() |
What does rev match do that you don't like? I've been driving vehicles with manual transmissions since 1968 and I find rev match works better and more consist than using the heel/toe method. When I first got a car with it I figured it was a gimmick but one day decided to just try it and I really liked how fast and smooth it made downshifting. So got in the habit of engaging rev match every time I started the car. On this Honda it works just as well if not better and it can be set so it's on by default which is nice for me. Motorcycles have gone to slipper clutches. The way GP racers downshift for a corner now is say after a straight in 5th gear, click down to second and let out the clutch (which slips) then get on the gas. Saves shifting to 4th, 3rd, then 2nd. Wife wanted new car to replace her 2011 Accord EXL V6. She wanted a Hybrid...6 months we looked: CRV, Rav4, Camry, Accord, Hyundai...yawn, Meh, hummph, boring, ...I want bells & whistles. Sigh. Finally get her over to the Acura dealer; but, they don't have any Hybrids...I know. Oooohh, I like the little one (ADX is the fancy version of the HRV). NO. I'm too old. it's too small, motor is too whimpy (1.5T). Okay fine..RDX. Another 2 weeks of looking at RDX's. They're too expensive. SIGH She finds a "new" 2025 loaner car for sale at the Acura dealer with 5k miles. Aspec, (but not the advanced pkge) It doesn't have the 2 things that she wanted that the Mazda CX-50 didn't have, and therefor she wouldn't buy. But now, she's okay with that. AAArrggh. Fine, tell you what, throw in a heated steering wheel and remote start with key FOB (no apps) and we'll take it. Done. Then the assaults came: Warranties, financing, service packages, theft tracking system, protection.... OMG, you thought I was taking their first young because I wanted to write a check for the agreed upon price. God, I hope it's a long time before I buy another new car.
