Not your average kind of girl |
I have dealt with people in my life who have been addicted to one thing or another since I was about 5 years old. I am sick to death of it. The denial, deceit, total disregard for anything but the habit they choose to overindulge. I thought I finally had someone who was healthy and without destructive addictions but recent events have proven me wrong. Now I have to start all over again after 5 years because the casino is more important than our family. Fucking hate addictions! Thanks for listening. I hate starting over again. Anybody got a house to rent for me some guns and 3 dogs? Mother = cocaine Father = gambling / shopping Aunt = alcohol Ex= alcohol Current = gambling Next= Nothing and No one. I am done with this crap! If it won't matter in 5 years don't give it more than 5 minutes.

There’s lots of winners out there. I’ve been told that 1 in 6 have a serious addiction. I believe that to be conservative. I have little advise other than to tell you that the right ones are out there somewhere. Be happy with yourself, absent anyone else. It's the key to being happy forever, because you don't need anyone to 'complete you' or whatever the lie currently is. Then you find someone else who has their shit together, or not. Point being it no longer matters. Wishing you and the hounds the best.

Just think you could have stayed in Maryland that kind of crap. I think you need to find a shooter and stick with that addiction, it's a lot healthier and fun in the long run. Hang around some matches as I remember from a photo a while you are a good looker and I bet one hell of a shot, combo of the two you'll have no problems finding someone who's got their head straight. Good Luck and Don't give up. Chris still stuck in Maryland

Boring would be good and a firearms addict might be ok if we made enough to support the habit. Thanks guys. I am content alone and definitely happy with myself. I am strong and have dealt with far worse so I know I will be ok. I am just upset that I let this happen and it's a bit overwhelming at the moment. Oh well lesson learned. If it won't matter in 5 years don't give it more than 5 minutes.

I hear you Ms RN as I have an addictive nature as well as my middle daughter. What I have learned to do is refocus that addiction to something positive. In my case I was very young (about 6 years old) and was on morphine for about a week to 10 days while in the hospital. As I grew up I knew something was different and focused that energy on stamp collection and model building. Those addictions turned in kind to coin collecting and research. (I can research the shit out of something.) About 30 years old I was bit by a cat and hospitalized with encapsulated organisms. Nearly lost my strong hand index finger. After the doctor cleaned out the finger's joint, i was again on morphine. That's how I knew of my addiction. Now that I know, I research the shit out of whatever I am collecting. This year it's vinyl and looking for a Marantz 2252B or 2270. Also researching the best way to sell collectables without getting the dirty end of the shitty stick. With regards to my daughter; I saw her reaction to alcohol and she's now focused on getting her master's in math. In your case, my 2nd wife (certifiably crazy, but that's another story) was/is addicted to gambling though not as bad [yet] as you've experienced. That marriage lasted 14 months and the gambling was a big part of it (she ran away when confronted). Good luck with your search. Be patient. You'll find the right person when you're supposed to. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. Unfortunately, there aren't any guarantees in life - other than death. Your hobby is a target rich environment (ahem). Perhaps move out west and meet a nice young Mormon boy Just kidding. Happiness may occur anywhere, anytime. Just be open to it. Good luck!!!

His Royal Hiney |
I have a cousin. When she started playing blackjack, the world seemed like it was ending when she lose her $20 stake. Fast forward several years, she's marked as a big time player in Las Vegas with comps as often as she wanted. She played $100 minimum bet blackjack tables to keep the riffraff away. After work, she would go to the local casino. Her husband would bring her a change of clothes in the morning before she went back to work. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I'm fortunate to not have any serious or harmful addictions. I do have something akin to withdrawal if I run out of morning coffee or my internet service or computer goes down. I did drink more than was good for me for many years.

Sorry to hear....hope you can start over with a clean slate. I only had to deal with one of those, my ex, (now deceased) had a drinking and drug problem. He couldn’t control it, and I started over. I did find a wonderful man, healthy, no addictions, and we’ve now been married over 30 years, and both enjoy our hobby. (One reason for me joining this forum, love of the hobby. ) Keep your chin up...you should certainly be due for a happy rest of your life. Wish you the best!

Thanks everyone. It is nice to be able to share here and get some feedback/support from my virtual friends. I haven't told anyone in my family yet but that is coming. Today I am getting the "I want to work it out" speeches" And the "I can handle it speeches" Along with the "I am not stopping and you need to believe in me crap" I am not a fool. This is the classic behavior of an addict. Coming up with excuses and reasons to go to the casino. That this time will be different and I just need to trust. It's just a matter of escape route for me and the pups now. Beyond totally cold turkey quitting and getting help there is no staying in this for me. Thanks gang you are all the best. If it won't matter in 5 years don't give it more than 5 minutes.

Tara, so sorry you have to deal with this. Probably better to deal with it now than later, when things could have been much worse. Let us know if you need anything. We are all here to help. Don't have a spare house, but you'd be welcome here anytime. "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." looking forward to 4 years of TRUMP!
