I was paying cash for lunch when my daughter was about six. She said, show them that plastic card then you won't have to pay.

When you use cash you feel the reality of the transaction.

There's a reason they don't use cash at the casinos.

I remember when they did.

About 30 years ago I was in a Casino in Atlantic City at the cash-out window.
They just happened to be transferring money out to the bank at that time.
Three carts loaded with about 9 cubic feet of stacked bills each were wheeled out by at least a dozen armed guards.

Sure they do. Every casino I've ever been in takes cash with no problems.

Of course I've only been in ones in Tahoe and Vegas, so I could be wrong.

They (casinos)`take cash (bills) in the slot machines, payout in vouchers which can then be converted to cash.

They do. NYC requires retail business to take cash.

Anyone know? (I don’t get out much.)

Remember what FDR did. Also, not allowing something to be used for certain transactions will essentially make it worthless. Can't pay back bank loans with it? Can't pay taxes with it? Can't pay utilities with it. Can't buy fuel with it? All these could be easily enforced, and would make doing business in gold, or any other commodity nearly impossible.

Edit: I snapshot this as soon as I read it. Someone else already mentioned FDR.

I've never seen cash used at the tables. At the cashier, sure. They built the tall buildings there so cash comes in and stays. Wink

They don't want bettors constantly reminded by seeing currency changing hands at the tables, that what they are using - risking, winning and losing - is real spendable cash, and not chips.

I have not been in a casino for a long time, but I do remember placing cash bets at 21 and craps tables. Dealer would call out "cash plays" and a supervisor would come to observe.

Cash at the cashier's cage and at the blackjack table. The phrase is "Color me up" meaning convert the cash to chips. The money is dropped in the cash box at the table. If you win you get it back in chips which you exchange at the cage. You do not hand the dealer cash you place it on the felt so the camera can see.

Mine is an absurd and perverted society.
We’v been submerged in worthless cash for ages but also slaves to banks that would close their doors and leave us to fend for ourselves.

Cash in hand, even when there’s no restocking prices and traders refuse or are unable toolerate are much better than refused or disabled plastic and no answers from the bank for days , weeks or months.

BTDT, not pretty.
