Toluene is a pure hydrocarbon and has zero negative effects to O2 sensors or cat converters.

Adding up to 20% will also work if the clear fuel is too low (89) for high compression or boosted engines.

That’s a dynamite idea, but how do you separate out the nitrogen and oxygen so you are left with just the toluene?

Not sure where your going with this.

or

Why do you want to separate nitrogen and oxygen? Gotta have air in the fuel air mixture, and last time I breeved, it was 78 and 21% respectively.

Ethanol produces greater NOx (nitrogen oxides) than toluene, and toluene produces less oxygenation than TEL (lead).

It is a component along with benzine that is being reduced in refining, as the adding of ethanol and its anti-knock "benefit, justifies" the reduction of toluene.

Can't speak for the car companies but oil & gas certainly doesn't want it and never did want it. It was foisted upon us by .gov and like all gov't mandates cost the industry billions in capital expenditures. It's also increased maintenance costs and introduced carbon steel stress corrosion cracking to a part of the business that previously didn't have cracking issues.

Besides the capital expenditures and increased maintenance passed on to consumers, taxpayers are getting double dipped since they've also funded billions in ethanol tax subsidies to farmers.

Sigmonkey,

TNT - TN = T

That's what it's a "dynamite" idea.

Ya, it was supposed to be kind of a joke, but I guess it bombed.

Same name maybe, and that's about it. Not even made on the same side of the planet.

It's not that putting a gun in your mouth and pulling the trigger is bad for you, you just have a cheap inferior head!

That's a hell of a stretch isn't it. I state that in the 1970's I was using OEM parts on my 1970 Beetle and you stretch that into my buying 40 year old OEM parts.

I've stopped counting.

Just because you can,
doesn't mean you should

I just go to my local small town airport with a fuel jug and buy some 100LL avgas. Costs about $4.35 a gallon.
Usually cheaper than non-ethanol and has much better fuel stabilizer, higher octane and no water.
Just don't be seen putting it into a street vehicle as you aren't paying the road tax, as far as I know.

LOL Yep.

Blew right past my head.

I do that stuff with my niece, (she's pursuing a path in astronautics) chemistry, physics, math, all the puns, and you got me.
