Black, are you referring to this video as seen on Fox News?

Dropped American Flag

I do not support those who show disrespect to our country and the symbols of our country and I certainly do not like seeing the flag dropped but, if this is the video of what you are referring to, I do not see the same things you mentioned.

Ok, fair enough. So if it is as you say, why hasn’t she booked time on each and every network to apologize for such a horrific insult to the country that she represents?

Networks would certainly line up at this point to hear her dribble.

She did not accidentally drop it. If was intentional so they could do their planned celebration.

An apology would be great but I am sure will not happen. I do appreciate the team member quickly picking up the flag.

We should all read and follow the US Flag Code.

Oh I can GUARANTEE you that nitwit has never read anything even remotely close to the U.S. Flag Code. Mouth-breathing moron, that thing is. And I agree...she no more "accidentally" dropped the flag than I just accidentally won the lotto. It was just another stick in the eye to Trump and his supporters to make her statement of "I am (gay) woman...hear me roar". Look up ASSHAT in the dictionary and her picture should be right there.

I just need to completely ignore this thread...it infuriates me. Razz

Does it infuriate you as much when people wear the flag as clothing?

There's a slight >< difference. One is a purposeful display of disrespect, the other a misguided attempt to honour.

I have a couple t-shirts that have the U.S. flag printed on the front. Technically, wearing those is a violation of the flag code. So call me misguided, but I wear those to honour my country and the flag that represents it.

I am annoyed, but not infuriated.

On one hand, they are expressing their appreciation for the U.S.A., on the other hand, they are violating the flag code, very likely unintentionally.

Agreed. It should not be draped over shoulders in celebration either. Done at the World Cup as well as during Olympic victory laps.

That I do care about. Particularly dissin' their flag and their POTUS while overseas.

For that, and that alone, they lose my support. Entirely.

Guess you haven't been paying attention. Soccer is rapidly gaining in popularity in the U.S. To the point where I've read that in some schools their soccer program is now more popular than any of their other sports programs--including *gasp* throwing eggball.

Personally, I find soccer far more interesting to watch than any other sport with the possible exception of ice hockey. Throwing eggball and baseball bore me to tears. Never have found basketball in the least bit interesting.

I love to watch soccer (and the other major sports) but the thing that really hamstrings the US men's game is the fact that all of the money in this country goes to the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. So if you have a son who is a truly great athlete and is highly recruited in one of those top sports, you would have zero incentive to push him to a career in soccer where he would have to go overseas to make any real money. Look at the MLS - most players are foreign. League wide attendance is mediocre because they are about the talent equivalent of a double A baseball league, complete with ex-pro has beens.

As for women's soccer, we excel as a nation because there aren't those opportunities for athletic women.

My point is, people in this country would care a lot more about soccer if we produced top talent, which we could if there weren't better options for our top male athletes. Even with that said, the game popularity is growing. DC united has a new stadium and they sell out. The real money will come with TV contracts however, if they can make that happen.

These women took a completely non-political event, a series of soccer games, and politicized it by bad mouthing their president, disrespecting their homeland, and defiling the American flag.

Rapinoe is the worst of them, a narcissist who will do anything for attention. She can run and kick a ball, but acts like she cured cancer.

At the end of the final game, the American women all celebrated, jumping up and down and cheering, hugging and crying. But as a team they openly disrespected America. So,the celebration was not in honor of their homeland, it was not about their pride as the team that brought an international victory to America. It was all merely personal, all ego, all careerist, all us us us .

"Look at us! We're so great!"

Yeah, you know what? Not really.

As I said in another thread here it’s a third world shithole sport I won’t support.

I’m probably one of the wheezing geezers, but still in same shape and size after basic and the police academy, wheezing just adds good sound effects.

Besides Olympic Samwich Making, the only female activity I’d like to see is Mia Hamm, in the Linda Carter Wonder Woman outfit laying a Rocky Marciano style beating on Rapinoe, that I’d pay to watch and cheer Mia on.

apparently their take home pay for each player is about $110k each

after taxes, perhaps they should consider how much they should refund the feds if they got any payments from the government to offset their training expenses

nhtagmember brings up a good statistic - educated me.

The prima donnas want "Money, Money. Money" when they already make more than 3 times the average American income.

The reason they are making the money now is because they never had market leverage to make more.
Now they do - NO not because they check whatever box they may have but the fact that they can be more marketable.
It has to be a win/win not a zero-sum game.
The market will sort it out not some SJW looking for an angle.

Para has convinced me. Women's sports are a sort of gender Jim Crow - separate but equal. This is just as wrong as racial discrimination.

Let everyone compete together on an equal basis. If few women make it into the NBA, so what? How many Jews are in the NBA?

I totally agree.

The market will bear zip with this fan, though.

It's unseemly for this national team to mix their role with selfish interest when they can't pack em' in to generate revenue.

It is said that a congregation will vote with its feet.

Many Americans will vote with their feet about this, too.
