Nice sentiment from President Trump but as a fan and American, I want more from our national teams. As far as them not acting political on the pitch, I guess not singing the national anthem, anti-American-institution press conferences, taking a knee, running up the score, over-celebrating, the tea cup slight of their opponent, and insulting the presidency don't count as much to some. Sportsmanship and conducting oneself as an ambassador on the world stage, win or lose, are more important to me. _______________________________ NRA Life Member NRA Certified Range Safety Officer

DeNile ain't only a river in Egypt... "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

It was also pretty telling when one of the players dropped the American flag on the ground in order to perform some stupid celebration dance. Fortunately she didn't step on it before another player came to pick it up.

I don't care about their sexual orientation either, but they flaunt it and are celebrated for it. If I had a daughter, I probably wouldn't be super excited about the USWNT being looked upon as role models.

Go ahead punk, make my day |
Reason I care is they can't justify it. They don't draw the crowds, they don't get the prize money, etc - which would pay them more. So I support if they can get paid more because they earned it, not via some SJW shaming campaign. Because percentage wise, they actually are getting more of what the sport makes than the men do. How are the pro-Soccer teams doing? Until they have some sort of instant replay for the theatrics of getting someone carded, they'll never be mainstream here.

I've posted this elsewhere but will repeat it here since it's germane to the above comment. Here are some numbers for Angry Megan and her equal pay cohorts to chew on: 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup Total attendance 1,131,312 Average attendance 21,756 over 52 matches Cheapest ticket USD10 Most expensive ticket USD93 2018 FIFA Men's World Cup Total attendance 3,031,368 Average attendance 47,371 over 64 matches Cheapest ticket USD110 Most expensive ticket USD1100 BTW, so far this year's Copa America is averaging 31,375 per match over just 22 matches. Still trying to track down sponsorship fees for each tournament. Harshest Dream, Reality

Maybe it would help if you put your hand on your heart and sang the National Anthem while you are representing the U.S. in the Final of the World Cup?

Their "typical" pay is not bad, IMO. Linky

And the best part? They can now pass into utter obscurity and none of us will have to hear form any of them again. Now Rapinoe and her girlfriend can go hang out at AOC's pad and marvel over the amazing garbage disposal. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Bad dog! |
Rapinoe is imitating Colin K., in hopes of gaining the kind of attention he received. Badmouth the USA, and the press is all over you, adoringly. So it's just a desperate career move. Women's soccer is going to fill 100,000 seat stadiums. And Rapinoe is going to be the star. Uh huh. ______________________________________________________ "You get much farther with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone."

Sorry. Not celebrating. Although, I understand wanting to cheer for the USA. International sports are about something bigger than self. Field a team to be proud of. When selecting Rapinoe as captain and leaving her there, this team allowed her to speak for the them, giving them a collective voice. It is no accident that others on the team show disrespect too. I long for the days when I don’t know a player’s politics, sexual preference or anything of the sort. To protest and see change we should use free speech to effect change. I hope they are unsuccessful in getting “Money, Money, Money” to reward the path they’ve chosen. I remember watching many tournaments where the Brazilians won – a powerhouse program. At the end, I would look back overall and genuinely cheer for the Brazilians while saying to myself, “We’ll try again next time” I enjoyed such tournaments and all the games on reminiscing. Why can’t our program lead us to a love of sport again? This team, although winning, has set us back. _______________________________ NRA Life Member NRA Certified Range Safety Officer

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I agree with your statement. Sadly, politics and athletics have been intertwined for as long as I can remember. The 1936 Olympic games in Berlin for example or the Black Power salute at the 1968 Olympics.

In 1936, Jesse Owens saluted the flag on the podium. The Germans wanted a propaganda plus by showing the alleged superiority of Aryans. Jesse showed a different color and proud national spirit. Owens didn't go there to make a statement. He was the statement. I hated the black power salute during the other Olympics but there have been many times when international competition was about sport where even an opponent's successes were applauded. I long for more times when a spectator can just enjoy a given sport. _______________________________ NRA Life Member NRA Certified Range Safety Officer

Did you catch the ending celebration??? One girl throws the American Flag on the ground Rapinoe then proceeds to step on it. Thankfully another player comes and grabs the flag on the ground so it can’t be walked on further. https://www.facebook.com/10831...28704628&v=e&sfns=cl Sorry can’t find the video anywhere but the Facebook. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Surprised this hasn't been posted, Rapinoe must be proud. I don't know how to link to the specific video, not that anyone really needs to see it. USWNT fans chant 'F--- Trump' on live TV after World Cup title Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.
