Tomorrow 1250 large primer 45 ACP are due to arrive, followed by 2k once fired M200 and 2k SAW brass.

Standard trigger and SRT kit for the 227 showed up today. Tomorrow the Wheeler brass punches arrive, and so do 2# of 1680 and 500 69 gr SMKs.

Also ordered 1k 125 gr SMK seconds from PVI today.

Needed something to keep me busy until this frozen tundra thaws back out. Smile

So what did YOU do today in reloading-land?

Went to a gun show in PA and bought 2 lbs. Titegroup, 2000 CCI primers and 1000 9mm bullets

When I was living with my parents in Alaska, I reloaded in the winter because we didn't want to waste any of the short summer reloading or doing anything besides shooting and fishing.

I had to cast around 6,000 bullets, size and lube them, clean 6,000 cases with 0000 steel wool, and load each and every one of them on a single stage press.

When I went out on my own I swore I'd never do that again and I now load weekly for what I shoot that week, rifle, 3 or more handgun calibers and two shotgun gauges. I do keep a few thousand loaded rounds in reserve, though.

Filling 45 apcs would take a lot more than could be loaded in one sitting, methinks.

Finished up this a m ,like I said run the press till my ass and arm get tired and break of for a couple hours,I sure beat the hell out of a four pound jug of Red Dot.

Bill I string it out over a few days, don't like to run short.
There was a time I only shoot once a week, but my shooters work schedules have gotten strung out and its usually three days,Had to shoot this am as Dr.Thomas came for breakfast and some of his casting and we shot a gun he's been thinking of getting.
He liked the 5906.
I will start on the forty this coming week and 38 specials after that,The casting is already done on those two.

I used to load on my old rock chucker supreme, was time consuming.
You use steel wool, bet you have found citrus acid cleans better these days
Dirty trashy brass cleans extremely well with just a little and hot water for a ten minute soak.

No, I don't use citric acid, I use a Dillon CV-500, walnut 18/40 media, NuFinish car polish and powdered red jewelers rouge.

I don't even want to get involved with wet cleaning. My brass is clean and shiny and that's all I need or want.

Long story, but I was the original owner of that powder purchased in 1972 and it's seen -40 Degrees Fahrenheit in Alaska and +140 Degrees Fahrenheit stored in a storage shed here. I'm going to go shoot some of it up in a .410 bore next week next to some .410 bore loaded with 2400 powder purchased 3 months ago.

So I loaded up some .410 bore 2-½" shells with this old powder and shot several stations of Sporting Clays today. Each station had 2 different presentations of clay pigeons at ranges from 40~50 yards and speeds of around 40 mph. I shot each pair with shells loaded with the old powder, then with shells loaded with the same 2400 powder that's around 3 months old.

There was no discernable difference in sound, smell or the amount of lead required to break the clays. That's pretty amazing for powder that's seen 180 degrees of temperature shift and around 5% to 85% relative humidity swings and was never stored in a temperature or humidity controlled place for the entire time. It is also in a round treated cardboard container as that was the way they did it in those days.

Pretty remarkable for 42 year old powder that's been abused, isn't it?

It doesn't surprise me in the least, though.

I primed AT LEAST 750 .40 S&W cases in preparation for completing their reloading process tomorrow.

If you upgraded to a Dillon you could do that all in one shot, you know.. Big Grin

Today I tried in vain to organize my bench a bit. Oh, and I loaded 20 308 target rounds. Really hoping my stamps show up this week so I can go try out my thunderbeast this weekend. Ugh.

Still need to clean guns. I keep putting that off...

I have an RCBS Pro2000 Auto-Indexing Progressive Press, so I can do it all in one shot on that, IF I CHOSE. Big Grin Have my reasons for priming separately for now... Wink

Was setting up my press again to load some massive quantity of .40 S&W and started getting crinkled cases when seating and crimping. WTH, over?

Gotta work that out somehow.....

One of the numerous reasons I prefer to seat and crimp in separate stations.

As do I. I've done it separate for a long, long time.
