I have not seen any WST, WSF or 231 in over 2 yrs now. It's about time for it to show back up. Corrected my typing error. Spell checker does not know how to handle numbers. This message has been edited. Correct my error. But yes 231, Spell checkers are useless when it comes to numbers. David P229R 9mm, Nitron, Beavertail Frame, Night Sights, DA/SA, SRT & Short Reach Trigger

red 5 1lb jars of Titegroup and 4 of Win Autocomp in Elizabethtown. This means I'll have 2 unopened cans of Unique, One with maybe 30 grains out and a 1lb can of Bullseye that I don't need as I prefer ball powder. If someone is near Harrisburg, PA and wants it, I'll sell it cheap.

I sure wish that I was close to you(I am a looong ways away), I would take both the Unique and Bullseye off of your hands. I use a lot of both.

They are both great powders. I just prefer WSF and Titegroup.

Plowing straight ahead come what may |
Went to my range this morning to do a little lead mining (rake and sweep up is more accurate)...after our cowboy shoot Saturday I noticed a bunch of lead "quarters, dimes and nickels" where the steel targets were standing... We had a rain Monday which really exposed them... About three hours of raking them into piles and then into my scoop...I filled three coffee cans with spent lead cowboy bullets...these three coffee cans weighed 106# total on a bath scale... These were off 1 1/2 out of five ranges...going to mine the others tomorrow if like today...there are no early morning shooters... Other than myself...as far as I know only one other guy does this...there is no telling how many tons of clean lead like this are on these ranges...it's a good source of aloyed clean lead ready to melt, cast and reload... ******************************************************** "we've gotta roll with the punches, learn to play all of our hunches Making the best of what ever comes our way Forget that blind ambition and learn to trust your intuition Plowing straight ahead come what may And theres a cowboy in the jungle" Jimmy Buffet

Cut, decapped and tumbled a couple hundred more pieces of m200. Almost done with that 5 gallon bucket. I'd like to finish it before I move.

You realize you can buy xtreme plated for less than that, and they aren't mixed up, right?

Fight, Build, Destroy. Sappers Lead the Way!! |
They want $72.50 for 124gr plus shipped per thousand. Just under $70 for 115's. I'll be ok. My next gig has me on a road system with a LOT of downtime so I'll be driving with my reloading setup anyways. Sorting is fun, ha. ETA: the free shipping from extreme for August is only orders $150+ _________________________ Trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up

Took the new .223 bolt out for some ammo testing to see if I could find something agreeable for the 1/9 twist. I loaded up 10 each of the Berger 52gr., Sierra 55gr.,Nosler 55gr.,Barnes 55gr.,Sierra 69gr.,Lapua 69gr.,A-Max 75gr., and Berger 77gr.. I used N540 powder for all the charges and new brass. Special thanks to Entropy for the supply of 75gr. A-Max. I shot 2 five round groups of all of the above in no particular order. Unfortunately the 75gr. A-Max must simply be too long for the 1/9 twist to stabilize as they didn't produce a recognizable grouping. The next worst was the solid copper Barnes producing 1 1/2" groups. Most of the others ran between 5/8"and 1 1/8". The stand out of the day was the 69gr. Lapua that produced two nice groupings albeit with one flier. Next I think I'll load up some of the 69gr. Lapua's with N540 and some with 8208 XBR to see if there is a preference. I'll close for now with a pic of the stick and of the mornings best. Ball Haulin' |
jlemmy, Got your email as well, but figured a post might help others too... Sorry to hear the results of the AMAXs. That was mine as well. I was using a 1/8 twist with the same effect. At the time, I was brand new to the precision loading thing, somdidnt know if my results were due to the bullet, powder, OAL, or some other variable. Like you, I found the 69gr (in my case the SMKs) to give me the best results. Then I discovered the .308. LOL I plan on going back into the .223 loading here soon using Varget, premium brass, and some of the things I learned loading and shooting my 5R. Its been a crazy 5 months or so, but just getting my head back above the water. I'd be curious to see what you end up with using those Scenars. They sure look like they hold promise.
