Really digging on my P7M8, seems I can just will the bullet to the target. Fixed fluted barrel, squeeze cocker safety/slide release, simple blowback action, super flat profile! Not alot to dislike. Weak 8+1 is the only real minus in my mind. Expensive gun to get kicked across the pavement by the PD in the event I had to use it! 1911-Always familiar pistol, proven action, compact length and flat profile, I can bobtail the frame if I wanted to reduce printing, 10 round mags already on-hand, +1. Manual and grip safety. .45 ACP power, always better than 9mm, especially with bs NYS 10 round mag restriction. Sig P320-Another proven pistol, also 10 round .45ACP, I shoot it at USPSA events same advantages as 1911 apply, for the most part, polymer frame probably a plus, never weighed either, but certainly thicker profile however with somewhat double stack mag. All will be carried in an iwb leather rig. Holder discussion for another time. Thanks guys… Foster's, Australian for Bud

sig 320 9MM as that is the round 99.99% of police carry these days.

320 is great as I own one, but for ccw have you checked out an H&K p2000sk? I can only carry aiwb and this gun is great for me as I prefer a da/sa weapon with the first trigger pull DA.

Do not listen to anyone here as to what you should get for your CCW... You can listen to some of the suggestions but YOU need to make that deceison..... Get something that YOU are comfortable carrying and are comfortable shooting with a good degree of accuracy...If YOU do not carry if for what ever reason and if YOU cannot be hitting the target with a good shot group with constant regularity then why are YOU carrying a CCW.... What works for me might be totally wrong for YOU. !!! ................... drill sgt.

^Agreed, I shoot all of them well, although it’s 2 rounds short of the .45’s at this point I’m leaning towards the HK. We’ll see. This message has been edited. Last edited by: apf383, Foster's, Australian for Bud

What you are the most proficient with. That being said, with a 10 round limit, as much as I love 1911's, I'd go with the H&K in 9mm or P320 in.45. Even with a bobtail, the 10 round mags on a 1911 are still going to print more than the others. You now have to balance terminal ballistics with capacity. This is where proficiency should play a large role, how quickly and accurately can you put those terminal ballistics to your advantage. Only you can answer that. Tony

I would agree with the P320 being better suited with the mag configuration rather than an 8+2 1911 mag. I do have iwb rigs for all 3. Foster's, Australian for Bud

If it was me, out of the choices you listed I’d go with the HK P7M8. I carried a PSP P7 years ago in an OWB Mitch Rosen leather pancake style holster. Worn at 4:00 the flat pistol disappeared under a jacket and was very comfortable.

When I had a P7 PSP I bought an IWB holster for it, but the proportions of the gun always made it feel top heavy, like it didn't want to stay in my pants. ("Hey now!") I can't imagine twice as many rounds would make it it feel better. Since it became "legal", I carry everywhere I go. (except for work, which would send me to jail). Which means not often, because I don't go anywhere! But when I do gosh darn it, I have my Hellcat on me. I have carried a full sized 1911 a couple times just for the heck of it under a winter coat. (the Hellcat I can conceal with a t-shirt)

I know what you mean cas, definitely feels top heavy when in the holster. On the belt though it doesn’t seem too bad. Foster's, Australian for Bud

Welcome to the club, I've had one since 1999. Where in the state are you? Some are friendlier than others. For example, I'm up by FT Drum, if my pistol accidentally got spotted, I'd probably get told politely to cover it back up. On the contrary, down in NYC, I'd get arrested (especially because non-NYC issued NYS pistol licenses aren't valid in the city). I raise this, because you might need to go to a smaller/more concealable pistol. Or if you live in the sticks, where you might want to go bigger in case you wall out your door and meet a bear. There has been an uptick in bear attacks as we've pushed into their living space. They even had one in Westchester last year. FWIW, I've got the full-size S&W E1911, it's a nice pistol, my bother has both the full size and smaller sized S&W 1911s since around 2010ish. The commander sized was noticeably less reliable than the full size occasionally failing to feed with ball ammo (mainly blazer brass). No known root cause, nor did we spend much time troubleshooting it. The 1911s mostly sit in the safe and go to the range on occasion. I've got 3 320s (if you count FCUs) and my duty pistol is an M17. I've run 9mm, .40 and .357 SIG through them. One of my 320s started as a 320 pro XCarry. I've since reconfigured it as an Xcompact so it's easier to CCW. The full size/x-carry grip does offer a better grip IMHO (my house gun is a full-size slide on an X carry frame), but it doesn't conceal as well. What you could do is grab a compact grip frame and 1-2 compact magazines and the then us the 10 round full-size magazines as your spares. If you want a reliable compact .45 look at the Glock 30 and 36. If you are willing to drop to 9mm, I'd look at a P-365 with 135 or 147 GR gold dots. It's very concealable and shoots very well. I carry mine in an Phster IWB and it fits the bill. This message has been edited. Last edited by: CD228,

CD228, downstater here, LI. My brother in law just picked up a 365, very nice compact package for certain. I’ll have to shoot it a few times to get the feel. My Commander length is a S&W and has been totally reliable with a few hundred through it do far. The 320 I shoot in USPSA has the most rounds through it and has been completely reliable as has the P7M8. I do prefer the comfort of 10 .45’s over the 8 9mm’s, but the HK is so damn flat it disappears on me. Foster's, Australian for Bud

Oh, You are a Freaking Long Island Guy! (FLIG). I've actually never spent much time in that part of the state. If you can conceal the commander, bang on! For chuckles and grins see if you can covert your 320 to 9mm and see what your times look like. I know the 9mm fcu can do .40 and .357 sig but I'm told it can't do .45. I'm not user if the .45 can go down to 9mm.

Since I’m, I guess we, are confined to 10 rounds I’d much rather have the .45, but the HK is stupid accurate. I believe you are correct about the fcu. .45 not inter-changeable with the smaller bore rounds. Foster's, Australian for Bud

Don't Panic |
Since you shoot all three well, I'd go with the lighter solution. In the event you are compelled to use it - which we hope never happens - the potential damage to the gun itself is the least of your worries. The less onerous the carry and the easier to conceal it is, the more likely it is you'll have it along if/when you need it.

The P365 should work perfect for what you're looking for.Don't take my word on that check one out. I would also recommend in addition, an airweight 38 snub and a small pocket auto. That will cover all bases and conditions for CCW. Gotta keep the big ones too of course. These are my opinion choices I fully realize what is good for one is not always good for another.
