I will second Armour Belts. Just got mine a few weeks ago and it is top quality work. Great belt, fast shipping, and you can't beat the price.

Another plug for Armour Belts. I ordered one of Mike's 1.75" belts on 31 October and received it on 4 November. I have a few other quality gun belts from other makers, but this is my first gun belt in this width. I'm very impressed with the quality, and the turnaround time can't be beat. I ordered plain black with a quarter round nickel buckle. It fits my Wrangler and Levi jeans very well.

David Bullard of Azle, Texas, did a "vintage bark" colored elephant rig for my 1911. It is topnotch serious heavy duty work. He lists 4" Pythons on his gun list.

I used this thread to make my choice with who to go to for my newest holster, and I am so happy with it, I wanted to post some pictures here. Anyone who is on the fence should highly consider R Grizzle for their next holster. I got my first holster from Ryan in the mail yesterday - and I am extremely impressed.

My holster is the Georgia Snap 2 that I asked him to make so that it would fit my 1 3/4" belt. I also asked for the same specifications on the GS Double Mag Carrier he made for me as well.

First impression was a big smile, and quite a bit of drool. The leather quality is perfect, and completely rigid as it should be. I have other holsters, both IWB and OWB, that utilize a tension screw on the holster to adjust retention. The method works well enough - but I have had the screw fall out on me once before. Ryan's holster does not have that - and I am actually liking it quite a bit.

The product information page that came with the holster and invoice state "My holsters are molded to fit snug..." - and that aint no joke. I have absolutely no worries about retention with this holster.

My only other leather OWB holster is a custom leather holster from another manufacturer popular here on Sig Forum, but Ryan's holster conceals my full size 1911 considerably better than my other holster conceals my P229. I don't carry OWB very often when actually trying to conceal, but the Georgia Snap 2 may change that in short order.

The same goes for the Mag Carrier. Both the holster and the Mag Carrier are held as close to the body as possible, and are better than I imagined they would be.

Now for the part you've all been waiting for - holster porn:

Ok, I am going to offer a comment, and open myself up to be flamed, so everyone get ready.

I have been hunting for a couple of holsters, a belt style and a shoulder design. I have contacted a few guys that have advertised on the forums, and reviewed a few web sites. Below is a synopsis of my experience so far. The opinions expressed are mine, and good or bad, are a RESULT of my searching, not an opinion of any one craftsman, not even the ones that don't return emails, texts, or phone calls. It is my general opinion if you have difficulty before the order is placed, you will have problems after as well. Yes, I understand some are very busy, but wasn't that an anticipated result before the business was started?

In simple terms, I find prices too high and delivery to long!

Now with that said, in my particular case, I am not looking for a work of art to photograph and post all over the web saying, look what I got!
What I am after is working holsters for EDC. I have seen some fitted so tight you would strain yourself to draw, and yet, others that it looks like the gun would fall out if you turned it upside down. Somewhere in between these two extremes there should be an economical piece of leather that fits my 1911's.
Yes, I am well aware of the many commercial outfits selling through places like Cabelas, Gander Mountain, and a host of sporting goods stores. Yes, those are priced more reasonable but availability is slim. Did I mention I am left handed? That little fact tosses a monkey wrench in the entire search process at retail places, and more closely defines the need for a direct connection to the craftsman.

So while I welcome the skills of new leather craftsman, I still challenge someone to break away from the mold that has become standard. Guns are too expensive too, but a holster should not represent 20-30% of the cost of the gun.

To one and all, I wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

A gun fight doesn't determine who wins, just who's left.
I'd rather have a gun in my hand, than the police on the phone.

Triton,

I don't see any reason why you would be flamed. It's not like you called anyone out, you just expressed your opinion.

The small holster makers aren't for everyone. You might want to check out Galco, they make a quality holster for very reasonable pricing and are mass produced so product should be readily available.

I'll second this nomination. I have used the Griffon V, the Peregrine and the Raptor form Nightingale. They are high quality holsters.I've been so impressed that I, just, ordered 3 more in full elephant hide Big Grin

I guess I'll throw my name out here to and show off some of my work, I've been selling locally for years but with my new job I wouldn't mind being a bit busier! These were all built for a 5 inch 1911, the exotic trim is Elephant. I can provide more details if anyone has an interest.
Thanks,
Eric Kelley

Hi all, I've tried a few different IWB options, this is my main EDC last 6 weeks or so. R Grizzle, "Rough-n-Ready" Horsehide, fits my XDs .45 great, easy draw, does not fall out or pull up on the draw. Comfortable to cary all day even when driving a few hours a day. Recommended, would like to get another for my other CC's.

I haven't posted on here in a while, but ironicly I need a new belt and emailed Jerry Bissell who made some freakin awesome belts for me 2 years ago. Based on this thread, is it true he's not making belts anymore?

Someone please recommend someone who makes belts as good as Jerry did for the price. Thanks!
