Did not get to see it all. But interesting. I did not know he died so young at 50.
Served in the marines I believe it said.
His wife was beautiful.
Lived in Idaho.
Moved to Ca. when ill.
Died in 1980.
Glad he was saved by the grace of God.

His son Chad died last year.

For all the coolness and the iconic image he portrayed, he was also quite the abuser to the women in his life. Both Nellie Adams and Ali McGraw retold stories of his intense jealousy, emotional rages and violent outbursts.

Steve really had the hots for Ali McGraw!! They made most of the movie "The Getaway" in San Marcos, Texas, and my buddy and I got to watch them make a lot of it.

He and Ali had a fight, and he got drunk and drove his Porsche into the community swimming pool!!

He was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and died of complications from tumor surgery even after American doctors told him his condition was inoperable and he would probably not survive the procedure.

I remember when he died. It was front page headline news, in fact there was a whole special section on his life and career. My Dad was especially upset one of his heroes had died.

Died in Juarez, Mexico, if I remember correctly.

American doctors said not to surgery so he found a doctor in Mexico who said yes.

He did die in Mexico, as a result of congestive heart failure, a complication following surgery for mesothelioma. When he was in the Marines he worked in a shipyard removing asbestos from the interior of ships and submarines, almost certainly the cause of the mesothelioma. Here's an excellent book, that chronicles his life, last days and salvation...
