I’ve been wondering for a while now what this particular double is. Glimpses of it don’t last long. Seems a little shorter than some, and when you do see the muzzle, it doesn’t seem to be a huge bore.
He’s dropping jumbos, lions, leopards and people with one shot (I acknowledge it’s not a documentary), so I’m guessing the fairly ubiquitous .375. Although the cartridges he loaded on the train didn’t seem to be 3+ inches long.
And I also acknowledge it doesn’t have to make sense.

According to Rock Island Auctions, it's apparently a modern Sabatti Express double rifle, standing in for something like a period correct Holland & Holland.

I'd like to know as well. All I see on the screen is a mouthwatering rifle, but then, I've probably read too much Capstick in my youth for my own good.

That train car scene, why the hell wouldn't you just point the gun at the 3 assholes and tell them to jump out in the first place, problem solved.

Or, after killing all 3, drag their bodies out the door and ride the rest of the way yourself. Why the heck is he the one getting off the train in the middle of nowhere?

I think the rifle is actually a Rizzini, not a Sabatti. Can't screenshot Paramount + on my PC but if you go to the scene in the train car just before 40min you get a very good look as he closes the action on the rifle. Looks like this:

And I believe it to be a 416 Rigby

I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

1. The train wasn't going where he is going.
2. He didn't kill the woman/girl.
3. Dead bodies with bullet holes found next to the tracks and it wouldn't be a big leap to guess the killer was on the train. Telegrams sent ahead of the train, train gets intercepted and searched.

I think in the show’s reality it SHOULD be a 416, or at least a 375. But when you look at some screenshots of the muzzle, it isn’t very big caliber. And the Sabattis come in 8 x 57R and a 9.3 cartridge, none of which would be usable on elephants. But as Rogue said, it’s just a modern double pretending to be an H&H Magnum.
I agree that the railroad car scenes seem a bit contrived or weird. But I guess at the end of the day, it’s just his code of honor that doesn’t allow him to be proactive, and he lets people make their own decisions, and when they’re bad, he just gets rid of them.
Not to hijack my own thread, but if this keeps drawing out, they’re gonna have to rename the last couple episodes “1924”.

In the latest episode Spencer proclaims the rifle to be of .416 Rigby caliber.

I thought we were done with Elsa in "1888," but apparently not. Her voiceover soliloquies in this show are insufferable.
