Bullshit… those kids are now in their 20s. It really pisses me off. seasons back in the day used to be 24 episodes. Now we get eight episodes sometimes less every 3 to 4 years. Yep. The actors are now 20-23. However, the characters are 16-17 in this final season, so it's not that big of a stretch. Heck, there are plenty of examples of high schoolers being played by 30-somethings in shows/movies.

Bumping an older thread to remind people the first four episodes have been released. Yeah, it's starting to look like Scorsese's "The Irishman". Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

First episode wasn't bad. Ages didnt look quite as obvious as expected. It was 11pm when we finished ep 1, so we cut it off there. The Enemy's gate is down.

I thought the last season was so bad I must admit I have zero interest in this season. If enough of you guys watch and say it’s great I will reconsider. I doubt it’s great though. I would settle for good and I bet it won’t even hit that. I just wish instead of making sure all the venn diagrams are represented they put that much effort into a good storyline. Not a big ask in my opinion

This show will be an example of why you should avoid dragging anything out too long no matter how good it was in the beginning. One good thing -- no need to feel bad now if you think Ele is hot.

My wife and I decided to watch the new season. We forgot how many prior seasons there were. We decided to just watch the prior season to “catch up”. I remember now why I wasn’t excited about this show anymore. Season 4 (?) is a drag. Its pacing is glacial and the story is thin. The whole going to Russia airplane bit is a ragged excuse for movie making. Ugh. Making the best friend gay is pandering. Making the best friend gay and pining after his not gay friend is borderline distasteful. Adding a lesbian story line as well is overkill. Tell a fucking story Hollywood. If a gay character makes it work then fine. Shoe horning in a bunch of gay people in just to increase your diversity score will weaken your tale. And it did. I really hope the juice is worth the squeeze.

I'd forgotten about the 2nd relationship until the 1st episode of S5. It's a bit less awkward than the Will veiled shift. Robin was up front about it nearly from the start, with Steve. The Enemy's gate is down.

The Robin angle is the less annoying of the two. Watching the cute girl (for some unknown reason) rub her foot on his leg during class and him pulling back his foot and looking repulsed was a bit in your face for me. I hope Will gets eaten by a monster in ep1. Plus, these actors all seem to be stuck in that very obnoxious middle school age bracket. I would rather fast forward 5 years and let them get past the goofy teenage angst. And be closer to their actual ages.

Agreed. The GF and I watched the first 4 episodes of Season 5 today. It's OK, but not great. Besides the obvious issue of there being years between seasons and thus a noticeably overage cast, it also highlights a bigger issue... Most of the main cast simply aren't very good at acting. When they were pre-teens or teenagers, it was easier to overlook that. (As well as perhaps when it was new and exciting, it was easier to overlook that.) Now that they're grown adults, and it's the fifth season, the problem is glaring. So I guess it's good that they're making something like a half million dollars apiece per episode for this season, as I think many of them are going to struggle to find high-paying acting work afterwards. Hope they have good financial planners.

Nit picking here, but is anybody else bothered by the close up shot sequences of driving the BMW? Whoever edited that sequence together does not understand how to drive stick. Let clutch out, then shift. Also, start from 0 mph in second gear. And Linda Hamilton as an Army general when she's almost 70 is a bigger offense than a 22 year old playing a high school kid.

My daughter asked me how much they were paying the actors so I looked it up. I was thinking about the cast of Seinfeld (or Friends) getting $1M each per episode in their final season, so I was pretty shocked to see how little Netflix is paying compared to that. Especially in light of inflation. I guess nothing will ever be as big as broadcast TV was before we had eleventy billion options.

So far I've only seen the first couple of episodes but you could certainly have a general officer that old if they are in the medical field. Also, they actually have 29-year-olds playing high school kids in this series. What's more "80s" than upper 20 year-old adults playing high school kids?
